One of my favorite things about DR when I was growing up there was the power outages. My grandmother would light candles and everyone would sit around and talk all night while drinking coffee. When the power came back, the entire neighborhood would clap and rejoice. Good times.

This is the most realistic explanation about the DR and living abroad in general. Too often, especially from Black American Women, it's typically oversold on how better or greater it is than the US. They would never tell you about their issues and challenges, and it's so misleading and unfair for those who follow them. Thank you for being transparent about your experiences. I'm sure you could have spoken longer on the negatives, but you balanced it well.

I am from Barbados and would like to visit. This is a very realistic analysis of the DR...thank you. I tried listening to some other YT channels, mostly American males looking for you know what, and you dont get a good feel for the Island. Again thank you!

I loved your video. I first visited the DR in 1984, on a work trip. In 1985 I met my future wife. We married in 1986. In approximately 2010 we bought a 2/3 acre lot on the river Yuboa, close to the city of Bonao. Over the course of several years we built a large home there. For many reasons we eventually sold our beloved home and bought a condo in Boca Chica. That is where we now spend much of the winter months. We travel the country extensively every year. I love going to the mountainous country where my wife’s sister lives. We also try to spend some time on the north coast in Cabarete. The beach scene there is special.

I lived in Santo Domingo for 3 years full time and currently live there for part of the year. This is a great overall summary of the Dominican Republic. Great job! Subscribed!
