As someone who likes historical fashion, it's (almost) all rectangles.

my first thought when I read the title was "of course that's what a lot of historical clothing used to be." like most roman clothing was just big rectangles tied off in different styles, kilts were just extremely long rectangles pleated and tied on, and even kimono are just large rectangles with rectangle sleeves tied around with a really long rectangle. a lot of historically clothing was just "how to waste as little fabric as possible"

Leena Norms made some clothes based on DIY Daisy patterns, and most of her patterns are all rectangles. I like that she writes instructions with "your measurements," like "fabric width = your waist measurement × 2" so that it really does work for you, not some mythical "standard size."

Check out a book called “Clothing from the hands that weave.” It basically goes through lots of historical designs that are all based on rectangles.

something you said really resonated with me... what I truly want out of the wardrobe I'm sewing for myself is to *not be aware of my clothes*. nothing binding. nothing pinching. nothing squishing unless I choose to squish myself on purpose. nothing needing to be adjusted when I stand up and readjusted when I sit down. I've got a couple store-bought dresses that do that, and I've made myself a T-shirt that feels like it just floats on me... now for the rest of the closet.

"after 3 minutes of thinking I was bored of thinking" what a mood.

I love these experimental style videos, I feel like they're fairly rare for creators in this current era of YouTube despite how entertaining it is just seeing someone go with what excites them with a material or concept.

13:09 I appreciate that you account for the finishing. Everyone is like, “Circle skirts are so quick! You really just need to cut a circle and join with one seam.” Then, I’m cursing myself 5 hrs later as I slowly finish the massive hem of the long and flowy skirt. Love the result! But those hems are not quick.

"Why are there so many sirens?" Because you haven't reached Scylla and Charybdis yet? I'm sorry, I had to, I'll see myself out.

As someone who sews a lot of historical Japanese clothing it is ALL rectangles!

Not a single item I can think of is anything but a bunch of rectangles sewn together. Which is great because I dislike sewing curves. 😂
