  <b>*NOTES ABOUT STARTING FIRE WITH CHAGA + MY CLOTHING:*</b><br><br>A note about using CHAGA to start a fire. - Fresh Chaga is NOT to be relied upon to start a fire. 99% of the fresh chaga you harvest will be too moist to get a coal. The reliable way is to use previously dried chaga.<br><br>Why the chaga I found worked? The bowdrill scene is cut from 1-3 hours of work to get it going, using multiple pieces of chaga I harvested. Not all of the pieces were dry enough; most didn&apos;t work. <br><br>Relative Humidity - Chaga absorbs moisture from the ambient air &amp; has moisture sucked out if that air is dry. A recent cold/dry spell was present for the days leading up to this trip. The chaga I used was on a southern-facing recently dead tree, this are gets a lot of wind, and has more sunlight on it in the winter. The chaga was very, very low in moisture comparatively. This was EXTREMELY LUCKY and very low probability. I can&apos;t stress that enough.   Great work! “Survival” means “don’t die”. Most people don’t realize that the goal isn’t comfort. You won’t be happy, just alive.

  A great lesson on why you should NEVER, NEVER go on even the shortest hike without carrying in your person, fire, a pocket knife, a small tarp/garbage bag, a small flashlight and why not… a chocolate bar or two. Having nothing is DIFFICULT.

  When I was an instructor for Survival In The Bush we used to teach that particular shelter for winter use. &nbsp;The rock as a thermal mass heat collector works excellent as long as you have hours to get it warmed up. &nbsp;You’re a very wise guy with tons of smarts and talent. &nbsp;Nice job.

  Few tips for improvement:<br>- smaller hut too keep it warmer and warm for longer<br>- put the schindle on the other way around so the water would not run off to the side and onto the underlying materials<br>- use one piece of bark as a heat reflector, to direct more of the heat from the fire towards you<br>- use snow for the outer-most layer of your shelter 1. because it‘s a very good insulator 2. it fills all the little crevices and therefore hinders warm air from leaving 3. you have enough to get a lot of it without using too much energy<br>- some soft-/hardshell jackets have light and thin plastic head-covers in the neck -&gt; cut it out and use it for water collection/snow heating (add ash to help with electrolytes)<br>- use even thicker firewood (if possible), it burns longer, hotter and you can use a few long logs to continuously feed the fire bee pushing it in the fire further and further <br>- can’t sleep -&gt; don’t lie around, go for a little hike to find more firewood/stones to heat/food/trash even. Upon return you might be tired and didn’t waste time or let your body cool down unnecessarily<br><br>Hope I could help, sorry for the long text
