I remember watching on TV when they brought her home to Bristol. Thousands came out to watch her come home. She had been left alone for those years in the Falklands untill a group of dedicated people realised this was a national treasure and had to be saved and they are still working on her. We should salute them.

My daughter served in the Royal Navy and she was stationed on HMS Victory for 12 months. One day she was giving a tour to some Spanish visitors when one asked if they were the original cannon balls on deck, my daughter being her usual self replied no we didn't ask you for them back 😂😂😂

A little bit of trivia related to SS GB. In December 1939 a force of Royal Navy Cruisers, HMS Exeter, HMS Achilles and HMS Ajax engaged the German Armoured Cruiser Graf Spee, a larger and more heavily armed ship, in the South Atlantic off the coast of South America. The engagement, ended when Graf Spee sought refuge in Montevideo at the mouth of the Rio de la Plata in Uruguay. HMS Exeter was damaged in the battle, having drawn a lot of Graf Spee's fire, and made for Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands, where the wreck of SS GB was located. In order to affect emergency repairs to enable her to return to Britain, iron plates from SS GB were used to patch battle damage to Exeter's hull.

I’ve been on SS great Britain several times in the 90s the ship is much bigger than the video shows, the first class dinning hall is beautifully decorated and those benches are actually surprisingly comfortable to sit on,when i went on the ship the engine was only about 10% rebuilt the boilers were there but massive flywheel and pistons weren’t there yet it was just a massive open space, you could stand on the 3 level and look straight down to the bottom of the engine room.If you ever to England the ship is open to the public you can walk round the ship and the bottom of the dry dock it’s truly a marvel of engineering.

Isambard Kingdom Brunel's dad built the Thames tunnel and his son helped designed Tower Bridge.
