An incredible movie to this day. I always think it's sad when people watch the chariot race scene but not the movie. The chariot race is impressive as it is, but it has far more impact and meaning when you know what Ben Hur has gone through to get retribution for his Mother and Sister. It's such a powerful moment.

One of the best movies ever made, in just about every department, and should be on anyone's top ten list. Shows you what Golden Age Hollywood was capable of in the pre-CGI era.

The scene where Christ gives Ben Hur water is my favorite movie scene of all time rivaled only by Quint's monologue in Jaws. I recall reading that Heston believed the actor playing the soldier in that scene deserved an Oscar. The interplay of emotions on his face was phenomenal.

The score is wonderful, the music really has that classic Hollywood feel to it.

I never would have thought of casting Stephen Boyd as Messala, but boy, did he do a good job. An underrated actor IMO.
