I've owned this receiver since 2023. I've heard many top-end receivers and amps costing four times as much as the Yamaha. This receiver is a work of art, and only people who know what top-end equipment is will know the potential of this masterpiece

I upgraded from the A4A to the A8A because I had two extra speakers. With my full set of KEF speakers the clarity and spacious soundstage is greatly improved. I think the difference is the pair of ESS 9026 Pro dacs compared to the single ESS 9018 dac in A4A. I’m very pleased with the upgrade.

Andrew when are you going back to review the Yamaha A8A receiver again with all the updates? I'm trying to decide between the Onkyo TX-RZ70 and the Sony ES STR-AZ5000ES.

I just got a Yamaha rx-a2a “Avantage”, which as we all know is a mixture of Avant Guard and Advantage. (Smirk) and I love the sound! I’m coming from Denon world and I wouldn’t go back to Denon if you paid me. The Yamaha is night and day better sounding. And everything they promised is fixed just fine. I would buy the a2a again. I think the a2a sounds significantly better than the v6a, but I don’t like ess Sabre DACs. The a2a is as high as you can go while still using 4 ti burr brown pcm5102a dacs. The a4a, a6a, and a8a are all using ess Sabre DACs. And especially with an avr, the internal dac package really matters, because every audio signal, including the analog inputs, are digitized, and are then sent through the internal dac package. Unless you click on Pure Direct Mode, which bypasses the ADC, processing, and the internal dac package. But you only get the 2 front speakers, and maybe the subwoofer? I have to check and see if the subwoofer still comes on.

Finally got the firmware update that allows MusicCast to stream Tidal up to 24/192kHz. Previously was limited to 16/44.1kHz. Happened on the same weekend that I installed a Rotel RMB-1585 power amp with my A6A. So I now have NO complaints with the Yamaha at all.
