Thank you for your service and for sharing your eyewitness account of this incident. It was an act of war. I am ashamed of how the Navy treated the sailors and officers of the Liberty.

HOW DO WE KNOW the Israeli Air Force attack and the 45 minute later second Israeli Navy attack were both deliberate and not a mistake? 1) The two U.S. radio frequencies immediately jammed during the first air attack, one emergency and the other a tactical frequency, were only known to the Israelis. 2) The precision of the air attack. Immediately zeroing in and knocking out Liberty's communications. The foreknowledge to be capable of doing so was from intelligence gained from the prior low level 8 Israeli military surveillance flights. They knew even then it was a U.S. ship. 3) THREE clearly visible American flags were hoisted in the breeze, as attested by the surviving crew, during the 2 attacks which lasted longer than the attack on Pearl Harbor. 4) For two attacks to be coordinated to happen between two different branches of Israeli militaries requires very high up political approval to even occur. 5) The Israeli government claimed the three Israeli navy torpedo boats were dispatched in response to a shore naval bombardment. No ships were ever confirmed as being in the area. The U.S.S. Liberty only had 4"peashooter" 50 cal machine guns for protection. The 8 Israeli surveillance flights would have easily confirmed that. Our survivor veterans who believe the 2 separate attacks were deliberate have been labeled as "antisemitic". After putting a huge torpedo through the middle of the Liberty, murdering 34 and maiming 171 of the crew, the torpedo boats machine gunned one lifeboat and removed another from the water, so survivors could not use them, against international law (jamming an emergency frequency was also against international law). Later, 2 Israeli helicopters hovered overhead and asked "Do you have casualties?", with huge blood stains all over the ship. The helicopters did not have medics visible, but armed troops. The badly wounded captain denied them to board, and he "flipped them the finger". WWII hero, namesake of the F-14 Tomcat fighter, former Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Thomas Moorer, said that to call the two seperate attacks "a mistake" "is ridiculous". Admiral Moorer also stated "I have to conclude that it was Israel's intent to sink the Liberty and leave as few survivors as possible. Israel knew perfectly well that the ship was American."
-- Dean Rusk, Secretary of State at the time: "The Liberty was flying an American flag. It was not all that difficult to identify, and my judgment was that somewhere along the line some fairly senior Israeli official gave the go-ahead for these attacks."
Lieutenant General Marshall S. Carter, director of the National Security Agency at the time: "There was no other answer than it was deliberate."
-- Major General John Morrison, NSA deputy director of Operations at the time: "Nobody believes that explanation. The only conjecture that we ever made that made any near sense is that the Israelis did not want us to intercept their communications at that time."
-- Dr. Louis Tordella, the deputy director of NSA at the time: "I believed the attack might have been ordered by some senior commander on the Sinai Peninsula [where the massacres were taking place] who wrongly suspected that the Liberty was monitoring his activities." Tordella also scrawled across the top page of the formal Israeli "mistake" report, "A nice whitewash."
-- Walter Deeley, the senior NSA official who conducted an internal NSA investigation of the incident: "There is no way that they didn't know that the Liberty was American."https://youtu.be/jJr3gNNn05g?t=9
