After having no word for the color green and using the same word for it as blue (青い, aoi), a word for green was added to the Japanese vocabulary in the 11th century (緑, midori - like the liqueur). It was actually a canibalization of the word for ``freshness", and wasn't even considered a separate color until the mid 20th century and post WWII. The word green is still considered a little strange in modern Japanese, is conjugated differently than the words for primary colors, and isn't used in official government terms or in major idioms (for example, traffic lights are called red, yellow and blue even though they are the same color as the ones in the west, and when someone is inexperinced or a fruit is unripe, you call them blue).<br><br>Also, I would very much like to know what happened before <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LM1pEFxDOS4&t=359">5:59</a> that produced a smug looking frog standing over an apparently dead crocodile.

I always thought tennis balls were green 🤔 but apparently, as you say, they are "optic yellow".
