Undergoing IVF and being told after the fact that "oh well I guess its your egg quality then, I mean you ARE old amiright?" is enraging. It shows me that fertility clinics don't have any more of a clue than anyone else, and are just guessing-- they're applying default, routinized therapies to people that "often work out" without having and real knowledge of what the blockers are and if the therapies are helpful or damaging- after charging you upwards of 7 to 28k for it all..... So I definitely agree that "unexplained" can only mean "we dont actually have a way to understand it yet". I am tired of being blamed because of my "age" when all my entire life, I've never been able to conceive- (so age is NOT the reason!)

Im 33 been actively TTC for over 2 years and been given the unexplained diagnosis. Had 2 failed iui cycles and couldn't do a third cause the progesterone for the 2nd half of my cycle was affecting my mental health and needed a break. Currently doing acupuncture to prepare for ivf in Feb. 🤞

I had 3 healthy babies then suddenly 4 early miscarriages. Started trying for our 4th right after I turned 38. Still having regular cycles like clock work. All recurrent pregnancy loss tests came back normal. My husband has high sperm count and all normal results EXCEPT moderate dna fragmentation at 20%. But they could not tell us if that was enough to cause all these losses. Really frustrating honestly. I’m starting to believe it is stress causing my issues.

The 'unexplained' label is medical gaslighting disguised as a diagnosis. After 4 losses and finally conceiving via IVF at 38, I learned that 'unexplained' often means 'we stopped looking.' Inflammation, autoimmune factors, blood clotting, egg quality issues that don't show up on standard AMH/FSH tests—these get missed because insurance doesn't cover deeper investigation unless there's a justification. Dr. Crawford, what's your take on patients advocating for ERA testing, immune panels, or ReceptivaDx BEFORE being labeled 'unexplained'? At what point should we demand more than 'let's just try IUI and see what happens'?
