Kendrick has said in an interview that 80% of his albums is him preparing himself to go in the studio to record the music , he lives life and takes notes constantly and have key words or saying that will trigger back the feeling and the memory he felt at that moment when he hears a sound. So when he goes in the studio its about him finding those sounds that will trigger those feelings again and somehow he says he always find them but in some cases it might take months or seconds. Listen to rick ruban interview with him they into dept about his process of making music.

Kamasi Washington, Terrace Martin, Anna Wise, Thundercat, Sounwave, Flying Lotus - this album is the TDE A team plus a who's who of LA jazz and beat scene players and producers plus the most influential 21st century jazz pianist Robert Glasper in addition to all the legends sampled and featured. That's why it sounds so untouchable!

u is genuinely one of the most heartbreaking songs i’ve ever heard, this album will go down in history and will never be forgotten, they already study this album in colleges and it’s archived in harvard, one of the only few hip hop albums to be archived along with the low end theory by a tribe called quest, the miseducation of lauryn hill by lauryn hill, and illmatic by nas

Man you looked exhausted after “u” which is such a heavy song but saw the life coming back with “alright” was cool. Glad you picked up on the monologue at the end of the song growing. Subscribed.

This was such a joy to watch. Reminded me of how brilliant this album is. It’s so cool to see someone with a sophisticated appreciation of music experience it for the first time

Michael, you have no idea how much these Kendrick album reactions mean to us! I’ve had an incredibly difficult year with taking care of family members and struggling to play guitar through tendinitis pain in my right hand, but your face at the beginning of “For Free” made everything better. Such a powerful thing to see pro musicians and music lovers experiencing great songs and albums outside of their go-to genres. Thank you for being you, man!
