Literally had my pastor tell me pauls words are God's words and then proceeds to show me a verse written by Paul to prove it 😂. The most circular reasoning ive ever heard in my life

As a teenager, I became an evangelical Christian. I fell in love with the Jesus in the gospels. I repented of my sins and strove to live a life of love, forgiveness, kindness, charity. Yet, in evangelicalism, those topics were rarely discussed. Instead, I received relentless messages of faith alone, inclusivity of salvation, doctrinal purity, Satan’s ubiquitous presence and eternal conscious torment for the vast majority of people who have ever lived - all derived from Paul’s writings. It took me years to realize I was trapped in a fear based religion. I wonder how many conversions involve a bait and switch.

I will never forget when I was searching for God for the first time I read the Bible. I had absolutely no “religious education” so I was reading it with completely fresh eyes. I hadn’t been told “how” to read it. I caught myself yelling at Paul and thinking he was a narcissist control freak that thought his sh!t didn’t stink. Now over 20 years later I am happy to know I was spot on.

Remember to mentally stretch before church as the mental gymnastics required will pull a muscle if you don't!

The mention of the pastor and 8-year old hit me more than anything else in the video. I've heard of examples of kids required to instantly forgive (a sibling for example) right after the offender is told to say "I'm sorry", as if the sooner (and bigger the offense) you forgive, the more pleased God will be. There's never any discussion of when, if, how, under what circumstances, forgiveness is helpful. Forgiveness can be quite good at the right time if it repairs a relationship, but it seems some people forgive just to show their "ability" to forgive.

I may be a conspiracy theory but it seems strange how Paul was always in contension with James, the actual brother of Jesus

I love how this channel gave us answers for question we had even as kids when we grew up under a religious society

Exactly! When I was actively ministering in a large Evangelical church I struggled with Paul's ministry. Now, since I had left the church and Christianity, I am grateful to Paul for showing me the door OUT. 😊

Many many years ago I was listening to some taped Jimmy Swaggart sermons. He got so revved up in what he was saying he called The Apostle Paul, "The Possum Paul" and then just kept going without correcting himself. I was laughing so hard I almost peed. Still makes me laugh.

I view Paul the same way I do modern day preachers. If god wants me to know anything, it can come tell me itself. Same goes for if god needs my money.

It's as many others joke. Most people don't follow Christianity, they follow Paulianity.
