  I can tell you a funny Ferrari rust story; back in the 80's I was working on a 246GT and we found a small hole in the rear wheel well,  just ahead of the tire. I started sanding and as I removed the rusty bit the hole got bigger and ended up  about 100mm in diameter. Looking at the hole I could see that inside was a hollow box section and I decided to have a look inside with a flashlight. Something was at the bottom of this box section so I reached in and started scooping out what I found there. It was: a broken pair of scissors, a heavy return spring, a handfull of sand and four lapel buttons from some kind of Italian vernal eqinox festival.  I asked by friend, Nino Epifani what he thought of this  and he said that the guy who swept up at Scaglietti probably  emptied his dustpan into the box section before they were done welding it up.

  Wonderful to hear Ivan wanting to modify the car to suit HIM and “not worried if it’s only worth a tenner….i don’t care..I’m 85 and Tim will get it one day!” My old neighbour Hilda would have got on famously with him. At 97 she was still very quick in her Renault 5 GT Turbo and only stopped driving because her 50 year old granddaughter got frightened in case she had an accident…never did! Hilda was a pre war motorcycle mechanic looking after her Dad’s racing Douglas…her favourite job was building wire wheels! She had no idea of age…at 99 I had to get her a new fridge and she demanded the best one in Curry`s as her old one had “….only lasted 15 years”. She lived to 101 and her 100th Birthday was shared with her old wartime friends who were member of SOE together…a room filled with history and wonderful old ladies. 🙂🙂🙂🙂
