  One thing i learned from a police officer was, don't fight with a officer on the streets, fight him in the court room.  If you fight him on the street, your giving them more to use against you in court. Just shut up, do as they say and get the interaction over with as quick as possible. If you did nothing wrong, your get that sweet settlement money.

  90% sure the license and registation questions is to make sure you're 1.) the owner of the car and 2). To check and see if you actually are driving with those two forma of identification.

  It's a shit situation in the US. The citizen has no idea if he's being taken as loot, and the cop has no idea if he's about to get shot.

  The fun thing about the 1 officer saying &apos;You have to provide me your full legal name, if I&apos;m investigating a crime.&apos; is not entirely true.<br><br>Several Lawyers have said that you don&apos;t have to say anything to an officer, let alone provide them with any information. With the caveat that this only really works when you&apos;re at home, not in the car.<br>Also to note, if the police do come to your home and ask you to step outside, don&apos;t do it. As long as you&apos;re in your house, they can&apos;t come in or arrest you without a warrant (or your permission) to enter your house.<br><br>And generally speaking, yes, you should &apos;always&apos; record your interactions with the police, even if the officer is being nice. A recording is more helpful in a court of law than just your word.<br><br>You can do the same in a car, but at you can see, they can detain you. It&apos;s a 24 hour detainment, and not really an arrest. Your car gets impounded as well. But generally speaking, yes, you don&apos;t have to tell them squat without a lawyer present. Just be prepared for the annoyances that go with it.<br><br>Generally, just give them the crap they want, be polite and most importantly; don&apos;t provide them information beyond what they ask for. (aka don&apos;t rat yourself out)<br><br>Honestly speaking, if you&apos;re polite or even be nice to them, there&apos;s a good chance you won&apos;t get a ticket if they pulled you over for something small.

  Pippa, Detective Williams is not saying that &quot;recording your encounters with police is criminal behavior&quot;, he&apos;s pointing out that criminals tend to copy that behavior, but mainly as a means to intimidate police - they have little to no true intention of proving themselves innocent. In other words: he&apos;s speaking in hindsight, knowing the person is actually guilty. So far, he&apos;s really said nothing out of line, though I&apos;m only 50 min in here.
