In 1972 I ate C rations stamped 1953. The sugar and salt packets were rock hard, the canned food was eatable . In Nam we were happy to get them.

The botulism question: if the can was bad the seam would have bloated. This occurs when the can is dented, rusted or cracked. Solution: never buy canned foods with dents or where the lip at the top is bent. The inner seal will be compromised. And, frankly, 60 years is nothing. They have tested a can of corned beef canned in the 1860s and found it safe. The use by date is simply a commercial and legal oblication under liability insurance. It does not affect the safety or shelf-life of the contents.

With the amount of weapons its said this Country contain, the lack of weapons mentioned in these stories bugs ne a little. But i do really like the stories.

Never under estimate the value of books.<br>The right books are worth more than gold, the knowledge of many times are contained within them if the book fits the purpose.

The bunker was built in the 60s, but we are supposed to believe 60 plus year old diesel was still useable!?

He saw a body 200 yards away and could make out such detail? <br>And you do not keep information from your tracking partner.<br>A contaminated can is either split open or swollen. You can tell by looking. Plus when you open it you will hear a it suck in air if the vacuum is intact.<br>And if the infected are starting to slow down why not split a couple into the cabin to relieve strain on the bunker.
