Luke pushing Jess in the lake wasn't a power move. it was a genuine sudden expression of frustration, and it spoke to Jess because it was *genuine*. that's why he liked that spot later. he hates dealing with people putting on false faces.

A note on Luke creating that hole in the wall: I think it was a nice 'I'm willing to make space for you' moment from him. You can take in a kid, have them sleep on a blowup mattress, but to look for an apartment/renovate your own home for them? It was Luke's way of showing Jess, "I'm here for you, and not just in the short term."

“Youre looking for reciprocation, you got it. Im here Jess, I’m always here” THIS LINE KILLS MY SOUL EVERYTIME

Jess suffered from abandonment of his parents, he lacked of confidence on himself. Even though he was a rebel, Luke never gave up, for the first time in his life an adult stood up for him. Jess left but his actions showed that Luke made a huge impact on his life. Season 4 episodes are my favorite, both of them worked on express their emotions.

Jess is such a missunderstood character. People love to hate on him but never seem to realize the amount of pain he was probably into

Jess was a difficult kid and Luke handled that way better than he's given credit for in the story

I think that Lorelai knows she has a certain effect on people and can use that to act a bit narcissistic. I loved how Jess always seemed to see through that from that first conversation between them

Luke’s paternal side is so much more apparent with Jess than his long lost daughter. That plot line was so annoying.

Jess is the character who genuinely matures most on this show. There's so much speculation about who slept with Rory in the revival, but one thing I'm sure of is that it wasn't Jess.  He's the one who speaks sense to Rory, holding her to a higher standard.  It isn't the cliche "you're not living up to your potential" spiel that parents give, but it's a call for her to take initiative and responsibility and to make the most of the opportunities and abilities she has.  He respects himself and her too much to have a fling with her on a whim.  He probably still feels attracted to her, but it's an adult attraction that has accountability and integrity in the mix. He's one of very few redeeming features in the general misfire that was the revival.

Idk why Lorelei expected to have 1 nice talk with Jess and for him to have a total change of heart. She gives a cheesy shallow pep talk then calls him "beyond screwed" when it doesnt work. She tries sooo hard to be the "cool Mom".

that scene where they hug after liz and tj's wedding brings me to tears. cause like who knows when was the last time jess got a hug from a parental figure?
