I had a herniated L4/L5 disc. Very severe pain in my butt cheek and leg. The pain was debilitating. Long story short It's been 10 months and I can still feel it in my butt. Not as bad though. First I went to a walk in clinic, they gave me a 5 day dose of steroids. No relief. Then I went to an orthopedic clinic. I did not want to even see a surgeon. They did 3 spinal injection about 3 weeks apart. The pain only subsided for a day each time. I did a lot of aleve and other OTC drugs. I went to a chiropractor twice a week for 6 weeks. He put me on one of those decompression tables. Still no real relief. I did 6 weeks of physical therapy. My orthopedic Dr. said I could see a surgeon or wait it out. He said my body should absord the herniated disc in a year to a year and a half. He called it an assending herniated disc. If I had not just retired I would of had to quit my job. It was 6 months before I could sleep more that 2 hrs. a night. I could hardly get in and of of a car. Its been 10 months now and I am starting to be able to move around pretty good. I am just able to walk around the block. I still have to sit down to put my pants on because I can't stand on my right leg. It acts like it's rubber. I lost 30 Lbs. I only weighted 165 to start with. There is hope folks it you are going through this. It definitely takes time. So don't jump of a tall building, believe me I thought of it. There is hope. Keep up on the exercises your physical therapist prescribes.

I had 2 pretty bad herniated discs L5/S1 in 2015, my Neurologist wanted to do surgery that Friday after reading the MRI, my spine doctor read me the results of a similar study, so I opted for physical therapy and pain management. It took almost a year to be at the point of not noticing any discomfort or thinking about it. The best exercises were core strength related, planks, bird dogs, dead bugs. In the beginning I would come home from work and just lay face down on the floor with ice packs on my back and I would occasionally do mini-cobras, that seemed to take the edge off and made the pain more of a discomfort and tolerable. I started working standing up all day at work (i'm a computer programmer) and that helped a lot as well. It was a long journey but I'm glad my doctor told me about the study and I would be in the same place in a year without surgery.

I suffered from a herniated disc some 20 years ago, and took up swimming (chest stroke only according to my doctor’s recommendation), and the tingling disappeared within a month. Not to forget some back flexing and strengthening exercises on daily basis

this gives me hope. From age 26-56, I swam laps, cycled and jogged several times a week each, and also did strength training. Then I moved to take care of my parents. I got with a bike group and did a Sat ride for the first year, then both parents had serious problems and needs so ALL of my physical activities came to a halt. I've also had a bad habit for decades, of sitting like Brad showed up with my butt slid forward. About 4 yrs into my parents' care, I walked behind my Dad to his bed one time to make sure he didn't fall. As he faced the side of his bed comtemplating how to lay down, his knees gave way. I tried to "throw" him to the right, towards the head of his bed, but his left leg slid out to the left and he went down. From the floor, I gave him one more thrust upward, and felt something in my back. The next day, I couldn't move. That was 3 yrs ago and it still hasn't healed, but it's better when I correct my seated posture.

I got into a car accident 10 years ago and doctor said I had a herniated disc… lower left side of my back. I was 18. I still have these flare ups randomly over the years and ive always been told to take anti inflammatories like advil AND do stretches but I am literally STILL dealing with the pain. This is insane to hear that they heal on their own because for 10 years I have NEVER heard anyone say this before and I am currently still experiencing pain.

Hope this helps someone. I had back pain for seven years. Finally herniated a disc whilst stretching to try and make the usual pain more bearable. Was the most excruciating thing I have ever endured, could not move without screaming, could not sit or stand. Went to the chiro, got some shots, it got better, but was still a major issue and I had pain whenever I walked. Trouble sleeping. Irritated and non-focused. Self medicated with MJ, helped, but just numbed me enough so that I could function and still exercise, just body weight stuff, but I couldnt give that up.

The solution was COLD SHOWERS. Correction exercises and stretches too, and medicinal mushrooms, but the main thing was cold showers. I cannot explain how this changed my life. 3min a day, 5 times a week. Do some breathing exercises beforehand. Pain disappeared in two weeks. Within a few months all the misalignments had corrected in my hips and shoulders and I can breathe properly again. I feel great actually. I do it almost every day now and I'm still getting better and aging backwards it seems :)

I suffered five herniated discs after a car accident, one of which was ruptured. I was fortunate to find a chiropractor and physical therapists who helped me recover from excruciating pain. Through acupuncture, traction, and mobilization treatments, I experienced 70% improvement after other doctors and chiropractors had been unable to help.

Please understand that disc injuries cause serious pain, and delays in treatment can worsen nerve irritation, leading to debilitating symptoms. I strongly encourage anyone suffering from disc problems to seek care from qualified chiropractors and physical therapists. Unless you've experienced it yourself, it's difficult to comprehend how painful these injuries can be.

This experience inspired me to become a chiropractor—I wanted to help others the way I was helped. We enter this profession to provide timely care, not to make patients wait. Through therapeutic interventions, approximately 90% of my patients experience significant improvement within two to three weeks.

I believe 6 weeks with a true spine injury is a pipe dream. I’ve always been in great shape. 12-14% body fat, working out 4 days a week, good diet, no drinking, no smoking and I herniated a disc 4 months ago and still have flares and days where I feel bad. I do manual labor for work and haven’t taken any time off but I lift properly and do my PT. I believe studies that say 6 weeks are very misleading and upsetting to people when they don’t get better quickly. So if it’s been weeks, months, years. Just keep going. You’ll get stronger and it’ll get better.

I had L4/L5 herniated disc and L2/3. Excruciatingly painful. Worst pain in my life.
Was immobile for about 6 weeks.
As soon as I was able to move around (just barely) I got an inversion table.
This accelerated my healing so unbelievably fast.
I have been symptom free for about 2.5 years and have fully healed as far as I can tell. I’m just as active as ever in the gym. I certainly don’t bar squats though just in case.
I cannot recommend enough, get an INVERSION TABLE !
