Hi team. I originally uploaded this in 2023 after MP’s passing, but the Warner Bros gremlins took it down. Hopefully this one can stay up a bit longer ❤️

My favorite Chandler joke is when Ross is looking through the peep hole and says "the door is closed, I can't see anything with the door closed!" and Chandler says "and the inventor of the door rests happily in his grave". Gets me every time.

I remember he once said in an interview that he knew he'd be remembered mostly for Friends, but he hoped to be remembered for helping people. I just wish that Matthew Perry could have known (or accepted) that his performance as Chandler DID help people. It still helps people. Just because Chandler isn't a real person doesn't mean we don't really love him.

There's one thing that unites all of the funniest people I've ever known personally. They've all been, at some point, clinically depressed - enough to have seriously considered suicide. It's very sad, but it seems to be a truth that only being plunged into the deepest darkest depths of one's psyche can unlock those pathways to humour like this. It is certainly a defence mechanism, but not to defend oneself from others - to defend oneself from their own mind and the things it has considered doing

Former sitcom writer here. I was a writers’ assist on a very huge family sitcom when Friends debuted. The writers of my show were older and didn’t “get” Friends. I was much younger, and I did get it. I needed to write a spec script to show them I could write for TV and was not a waste of their time. I chose to write a Friends spec despite their opinion, and my A story was a Chandler Bing story. I got a script assignment on my show based on my spec, and that led to a staff writing job on my show. Couldn’t have done it without Matthew Perry’s great portrayal of well-written character. RIP, Matthew Perry.

Of his post Friends career, it made me most sad that 'Go On' didn't find its audience. It had created by Friends exes producer; Perry played a sarcastic grieving widower becoming friends with the members of his support group. He was funny and vulnerable, and it had a great supporting cast.

Pretty much all American comedy in the modern day can be linked in some way back to Matthew Perry. Self-referential humor, deep sarcasm and self-deprecation is so commonplace in 2026 that it's interesting to think about how it was so unique to a TV sitcom character back in the 90s. It obviously existed forever, and is present in so many different British comedies but the deep relatability of Chandler really puts him on a unique pedestal compared to his five costars
