Awesome. I came onboard in the late '80s as QA Manager, fresh out of college and climbing was my life (still is a huge part). What a magical time. So cool to see this. And that photo at 9:33 of everyone! My girlfriend and future wife Linda is in the first row right behind the "B". I was in Italy when that was taken, visiting our partners Scarpa in Asolo where we made our climbing shoes. I have the celebratory black t-shirt Maria made hanging in my closet: "Black Diamond Equipment Ltd." and etched in pink: "First Ascent Team Dec.1 1989."

Thank you Peter and Maria for taking the legacy of Chouinard and Great Pacific Iron Works and building a strong and innovative company.

I started climbing in 1970. The only places to get climbing gear were Timberline Sports (Salt Lake City), Teton Mountaineering (Jackson Hole), Boulder Mountaineering and Neptune Mountaineering (Boulder), and REI in Seattle via mail order.

I still have a few Chouinard climbing gear items, but most of it is Black Diamond.

I still climb relatively hard at 71. The improvement in gear over 50 years is amazing. Black Diamond continues to refine climbing gear, for example, cams.

One of the most determined people I’ve ever encountered in my life we went to high school together, and I can remember him climbing the pegboard like it was nothing amazing person

Great show! I needed that tour of the Alaska Range. I don't care what anybody says; the 70's and '80s were the schnizzle.

I didn't know this story. I thought Yvon sold his business to a big business who did marketing, etc as big businesses did. It was interesting and inspiring to view this story. I enjoyed the Castleton Tower segment. I was going to do it one weekend but ABC was filming George Willig that day. Never got back to it.
