"Ustedes" is also used in Spain as a formal way to say "vosotros" and in some parts of the south ustedes is the rule as in Latam.

Castellano y Español es exactamente lo mismo. Nosotros (Latinoamérica) y España nos entendemos perfectamente. Creo que algunas mujeres estaban exagerando sobre la diferencia.

Español and Castellano are synonymous. That's because the original name of the region were the language was formed was called Castilla (because it had a lot of castles), but in the east and the west of Castilla there were other kingdoms that spoke their own languages (Old Galician/Potuguese, Leonese, Aragonese, Catalan, etc.) and to the south, in the muslim kingdoms they spoke both arabic and mozarabic (a romance language close to spanish and portuguese with many arabic loan words).

When the Spanish Empire was formed the kingdom that had control over the colonies was Castille, so the colonizers spoke Spanish/Castillian (or they learned it when they emigrated with other castillians in their crew, as it was the lingua franca).

In the end of the modern age Castillian (Castellano) was staring to get called Español because the Spanish nationalist tried to used Castillian as the principal language in Spain (even if there were and there are other spanish languages like Gallician, Catalan or Aragonese).

Then many people started to colloquially say that their language is "Español" instead of "Castellano".

But is sad because there are other languages in Spain and the region were this language was born it's the region of Castilla.

Imagine if the English would promote that the language that they speak is "english" also called "greatbritanian" in a way to promoted english as the only language associated with the united kingdom.

But today both names are correct Spanish and Castillian. In some regions of Spain and Latin America (like Argentina) thay usually say that they speak "Castellano" but in other places of Spain and Latin America (like Mexico) they prefer to say "Español". But is not rare to use both or incorrect to say that they are synonymous. Is like saying Mandarin and Chinese, I prefer to say Mandarin because there are many languages inside China (and Taiwan) but when you say that someone speaks Chinese, you know what language they are talking about.

What are these girls smoking? He’s right, it’s the same language with slight differences in vocabulary. That’s the same between the various Latin American countries.

As someone from Peru, poor guy.

It really annoyed me how the girl from Costa Rica seriously tried to tell him that "Español" and "Castellano" are different, when not only are they not different, but technically, "Castellano" tends to refer more to medieval Spanish (according to the RAE), but colloquially, we use "Castilian" as a synonym for Spanish, even though we are referring to the Spanish spoken in Spain when we say "Castellano" and I have never in my life met anyone ignorant enough to claim they were different.

I also want to emphasize that saying "Spanish from Spain and Latin American Spanish" is also wrong, because Spanish is a Latin language. It derives from Latin; there is no such thing as "non-Latin" Spanish—Spain is literally the reason why half of the Americas is Latin.

Fortunately, the girls from Argentina, Peru, and Chile demonstrate that there is education in Latin America, because if it were up to the girls from Costa Rica, Colombia, and Mexico... they are overbearing, acting like know-it-alls, and arrogant.

Them: Chilean accent is the most difficult to understand.
Also Them: we don't speak the same language as you. You speak this we speak that.
Then proceed to compare words of seemingly 2 different languages where one of the dialect, apparently is the hardest to understand. Poor guy.

Saying "you speak castellano and we speak español" is as stupid as saying "a mi me gustan los platanos y a ti las bananas, we are not the same". Please don't bring people that spread misinformation.

In Portugal it's called "ananás", in Brazil we call it "abacaxi", but there's also a type of pineapple called "ananás" here in Brazil, and the both words come from the linguistic family tupi-guarani, spoke by the indiginous people tupi-guarani that used to live in Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Bolivia.
