Such a rich and immersive conversation with Dr. Shedler! I feel like the longer format, and detailed, role play throughout gave a great opportunity for you both to explore a lot of nuances of this personality style. I really appreciate Dr. Shedler's statement that "it's very very difficult to give yourself what you need if you don't allow yourself to know what it is that you need", referring to the underlying unmet emotional needs that are continually occluded by the patient's focus on others at the exclusion of self. Brilliant conversation, thank you!

YEAH THAT WAS PEAK SHEDLER EXPERIENCE RIGHT THERE.

well i am conflicted, maybe i am too much with this improper familiarity but this is how i felt listening to the whole thing finally.
glad there's a place to watch these ideas being discussed and presented in such a way, besides the role play is just something else really

This was so helpful, especially the part about the therapist having to actively help the patient bring awareness to the possibility of feeling angry. Depressive patients have such ninja skills at disavowing aggression.

Can't wait for an interview with him on Histrionic Personalities at some point!

This was somewhat hard to watch in the sense that it felt like an actual session : it brought up feelings I had during my therapy. A valuable episode for training psychotherapists, thank you so much both of you.

Great depiction into the therapeutic process, as well as Shelder's psychodynamic responses to the patient's internal world. This seemed to be heavily laced with the Intersubjectivity model of treatment. We need more opportunities to see what these sessions look like and compare contrast to our own ways of relating in session as we are think about the goals of therapy. Thanks again
