Serious question: if the Coast Guard tells you to stay 500 yards away from a "Navy vessel" you can't actually see… do you radio and ask for help, or just sit there waiting for hours like we did? 😂⚓

Hail the CG on 16 or in this instance 73, tell them your location or coordinates and your destination.  Ask if you're safe to proceed, very simple, no need for elaborate discussion.

Home Land. Lots Subs here. Jetty Park is a good place to watch them.

We had a similar experience with a submarine coming into the mouth of the San Diego bay as we were coming out. Got the call on the radio, didn’t know they were talking to us and I kept my heading because I couldn’t see the sub. A minute or two later we got swarmed by harbour police, they pointed out the sub and we changed course. Thankfully they were polite and understanding when I explained the situation. That sub was extremely hard to see against all the other vessels in the water at the time.

The food looked great!  Bummer on not seeing a submarine - cool experience though.

If you are being told to not cross the bow of a vessel you cannot observe visually or on radar, then yes I&apos;d have hopped on ch73 to at least get a heading or direction I should be avoiding. It is impossible to safely avoid crossing a bow you cannot see.<br>This causes confusion inwich we clearly see both from these folks and others on the radio. Confusion causes catastrophes.

I would respond with &quot;US Coast Guard, this is (boat name), I do not have a navy vessel in sight, my destination is, (X).&quot; Just tell them you dont see it.

At least you guys were sharp enough to figure out that a vessel could be something you dont see. There are some real idiots out there. &nbsp; You just radio your coordinates and headed direction and ask if you are good. Thats the &nbsp;best idea considered they were not openly providing theie position. If they wanted you to know exactly where it was, they would tell you. They would literally give you the heading and distance with the warning. You did okay though. Playing it safe is ok

Can’t imagine what would happen if they were actually in a critical situation. 🤦‍♂️
