  I always thought of Jeff, Eyeless Jack, Toby, Clockwork, Rake, etc. as being the 2010s internet teen equivalent of slasher icons like Jason, Freddy, Leatherface, Michael Myers, Ghostface, etc.

  Jeff the Killer is like the perfect look into how a 15 year old, anime loving, edgy, emotionally stunted teenager views confrontation. Of course Jeff can accurately throw a knife into someone&apos;s shoulder, that&apos;s how knife fights work right? Of course a 13 year old bully would carry around a gun and hold a party of grown adults hostage, they&apos;re villains and that&apos;s what villains do. It&apos;s clear that Jeff is meant to be a self-insert for a kid who is more than likely struggling to accept that the world around them isn&apos;t what they had hoped for and no one explained how to them how to confront disappointment. This can mostly be seen in how perfect the character Jeff is. He doesn&apos;t struggle with anything, he&apos;s misunderstood, he&apos;s an expert martial artist, he has a latent hidden super power, and does all the cool stuff that Heath Ledger&apos;s Joker does... It&apos;s essentially the Hot Topic/Screamo/Scene kid&apos;s Disney Princess tale. <br><br>I&apos;ve always contested that this creepypasta, while being absolutely cringe in every way possible, is also entirely essential to understanding a specific time period of teenage internet culture.

  His legacy is truly fascinating. He really is the other side to the coin with Slenderman in terms of those who are the face of Creepypastas. Y’know, considering Slenderman had a movie in 2017, I’m surprised no one has tried that with Jeff. It may not be a good movie, but it would’ve been funny.

  In high school, I sat next to &quot;the weird girl&quot; in choir. We weren&apos;t very close, just barely acquainted, but i was always kind to her. One day, she asked if I could proofread a short story she was writing, and I said sure without even thinking to ask her what it was about. It was a smut fanfiction about her and Jeff the Killer.<br><br>This was in 2017 btw I had no idea Jeff the Killer was even still a thing

  I don&apos;t remember where I heard this, specifically but it could be mentioned that a good chunk of Jeff&apos;s early popularity is due to him being written as a blank slate (albeit unintentionally). People just project their ideal version of Jeff onto the story and boom, you got yourself the genesis of Internet horror
