  Fun fact: If you have the Guinness World book of &apos;96... you&apos;ll find images of Super Mario Kart R. How do I know? Because I have that book and took me years to realize it was Mario Kart 64 because of the difference UI and characters.

  The “R” meant Reality. The N64’s original code name was Project Reality. The magazines all had this wrong.

  Imagine if another gigaleak happened that revealed a lot of N64 prototypes and betas, like how the 2020 gigaleak revealed a lot of SNES prototypes and betas

  The characters actually do “speak” in the final game…but not from bumping into things. However, they usually only say “🎶” whenever the player uses the breaks to save them from spinning out from a banana or from doing too many rapid turns in 150cc.

  It’s tragically ironic that Kamek went from being cut from MK64 to finally being added in Tour/8 Deluxe, only for him to be relegated to an item in Mario Kart World.<br><br>MK64 is probably the Mario Kart I think the least about, but it does have some interesting beta elements. I like the town track and the yet to be seen parking lot track (admittedly I’m a fan of Mario Kart city tracks), and some of the items are quite interesting.

  i’m honestly glad you are primarily focusing on the real interesting differences from the beta to the final game instead of focusing on the grass being different from the beta to the final game

  I always thought that the main reason that Super Mario Kart R was renamed to Mario Kart 64 was to avoid being confused with Sonic R.

  People have to admit that it was really hard to see that the characters were all 2D sprites back then on a 320x240 CRT connected via composite :)<br>It might seem obvious now but back in the day, people were just amazed you could play with 3 other people in 3D arenas.
