  As a Marine Sniper, dietary intake was an important tactical stealth consideration. We would only eat bland food such as potted meat, rice and boiled chicken, etc. No coffee, spices or sweets, deodarant. We used Surgical soap and baking soda on a wet toothbrush. In the field away from civilization, the lack of man made odors made food odors surprisingly obvious. Detecting and tracking hostiles based on the occasional scent of foreign odors was a thing.

  My Grandpa fought next to Reckless. Every time the whole family got together he would tell us all his stories. I have a family member who is at Camp Pendleton. He said Dauntless, the second colt of Reckless, is currently living in retirement at the Camp Pendleton Base Stables, and is the most loved and spolied horse there. My family member is a Staff Sergeant and loves telling the stories grandpa told us about Reckless.

  The Chinese soldiers had a habit of chewing cloves of garlic like US GIs chew chewing gum. I don't know why but that was common knowledge according to my older brother who served in Korea.

  Just a reminder that<br>Sgt. Reckless was a Korean-born immigrant who served with the United States Marine Corps. Semper Fidelis. 😉

  &quot;But they&apos;re wrong! Over and over again they&apos;re wrong!&quot; <br>This whole section here always gets me misty eyed. Nick does a PHENOMENAL job pulling all of that emotion out and really making you feel the worry, the dread, and the relief you can imagine many of the marines felt everytime they sent her away and every time she returned.

  My favorite part of this story is how the navy captain saw &quot;horse&quot; on the manifest and went, &quot;nah surely it&apos;s not a horse, I&apos;d bet it&apos;s just beer and the Marines got an entire horse&apos;s weight of beer from somewhere&quot;
