  My father-in-;law was born and raised in Oklahoma. Back in the time of the 20s and 30s, hitchhiking was done all the time. Dad was walking from his father&apos;s place to his wife&apos;s family&apos;s place. He was trying to hitch a ride and a car finally stopped. Dad rode in the back seat. The driver and the girl were in the front seat and another guy was sitting in the back with Dad. They chatted about weather, family, and other things. It wasn&apos;t until a couple weeks later that he saw pictures of Bonnie and Clyde and was shocked to know he was riding with hardened criminals. It&apos;s now a family story.

  My father actually seen them back in Missouri. They came into a bar and announce themselves, no robbery, no shooting.

  My Mom was a little girl growing up in North Louisiana and remembered when this was going on. &nbsp;She said everyone was in Fear of these murderers . &nbsp;They lived way out in the. Country. Not too many vehicles came by but when they did mama said her mama would holler for her to get in the house.

  My Father grew up in Texas and was quite disturbed by the romantic treatment of two murdering criminals by Hollywood.

  When I was a young family doctor in Jefferson, Texas I had a patient in her later 90’s who was a waitress at a diner in Vivian, Louisiana when they came to eat. She knew exactly who they were and was very nervous. As soon as they left, the owner called the police but Bonnie and Clyde were long gone. They were gunned down shortly after.

  My Mom and Dad considered these types to be just criminals. But, my Mom said she had a sister and plenty of cousins who thought these criminals were glamorous. My Dad being a deputy sheriff and a prison warden probably had something to do with my parents&apos; view.

  Bonnie and Clyde... &nbsp;We tend to romanticize criminals, especially those from bygone eras. &nbsp;From Jesse James and Billy the Kid to Capone and Dillinger, it&apos;s easy to dismiss the pain and suffering they caused while making them out to be some sort of wayward folk heroes. &nbsp;<br><br>The more I learn about Bonnie and Clyde, and the more life experience I gain, the more I can&apos;t help but to compare them to younger criminals of today, who are usually meth-addled or on other drugs. &nbsp;Letting my older brother stay at a house my wife bought in exchange for him working on in opened my eyes. &nbsp;Unbeknownst to us, he&apos;s an addict, and while he was in his early-50s, his &quot;friend&quot; circle included quite a few people in their 20s. &nbsp;These people are regularly in and out of jail, habitually steal vehicles (U-Hauls are really popular), will take anything not bolted down, and have even been involved in violent crimes up to and including murder. &nbsp;Somehow or another, that&apos;s a &quot;normal&quot; life for that segment of society. &nbsp;<br><br>Anyone who chose a life of crime at the expense of non-criminals does not deserve to be admired. &nbsp;Whether you&apos;re robbing the general store, assaulting an innocent bystander, or shooting a cop that tried intervening, you deserve to be locked up or worse. &nbsp;No amount of daydreaming about Robin Hood-esque thieves fighting the system to benefit the poor changes that.
