Not only does Laurie Metcalf play Sheldon's mother in TBBT, she is also the real life mother of Zoe Perry who played Sheldon's mother in Young Sheldon.

Johnny Galecki actually DOES play the cello. However, he would occasionally flip his bow upside down in scenes where he was "playing" with Sara Gilbert so he could avoid accidentally making sound and interfering with the show's audio production. Gilbert does NOT play the violin.

Laurie Metcalf, Johnnie Galecki(Leonard), and Sara Gilbert(Leslie), were all on Rosanne back in the day. Laurie Metcalf's daughter, Zoe Perry, play the part of Sheldon's mom on Young Sheldon.😊
