  Hard disagree about the Island Adventure episode. I just recently rewatched the first season, and I found it genuinely wonderful. One of the things that I think makes Steven Universe so unique and reinforces its core theme so much is that, at least for many of the early episodes, the &quot;villain of the week&quot; for an episode is usually one of the main characters. The &quot;good guys&quot;. Garnet is more or less the only character who doesn&apos;t take a villain role at some point in the first season, and that&apos;s only if you count her fusion into Sugilite as a separate person. (Unless you count her becoming a gamer as derelicting her duty... but nah.)<br><br>This is a feature, not a bug, I think. This revelation occurs right as you begin to realize that the &quot;monsters&quot; the gems have been fighting are, in fact, not monsters, but people - broken people. Sadie might have been a monster in that episode, but so was Amethyst when she kidnapped Steven to the kindergarten, or Pearl when SHE almost kidnapped Steven into space. The point is that even perfectly well-intentioned people can be going through things that can cause them to act in awful ways, but that doesn&apos;t make them evil. Steven Universe is, as a show, ABOUT empathy. It&apos;s about understanding why these good people can sometimes do hard things.<br><br>For Island Adventure specifically, we already understand a lot about where Sadie is in relation to Lars. She&apos;s extremely insecure and jumps at small scraps of affection. They&apos;ve already (probably) had a one-night stand, which Lars did not take seriously. He&apos;s already broken her heart to tears, and yet we still see how desperate she is for his attention.<br>In my opinion, this makes her character more deep, interesting, and tragic than if she was a perfect person who never did wrong.<br><br>Her stranding Lars and Steven on the island with her is not more morally reprehensible than Pearl planning to take Steven to space for a thousand years, or when Greg faked an injury and devastated his son&apos;s confidence, or when Amethyst shape-shifted into Greg&apos;s dead ex. They&apos;re all horrible things, but holding that against them and not accepting that as part of the flawed characters they are seems against the point of the show.<br>Anyway, continuing the video-

  Saying Garnet is best earns you 100 green flags. Stronger than you is such a goated song that a ridiculous amount of other fandoms (Especially undertale) made thousands and I REALLY DO MEAN THOUSANDS of parodies and covers (They would call them &quot;responses&quot; if I remember) on it. it really goes to show how goated of a moment that was for Garnet for it to have a bajillion renditions.<br><br>My favorite SU character is Garnet, my mothers favorite SU character is Garnet, W Garnet.

  man, being in the SU fandom and the undertale fandom at the same time when I was younger was such a wild ride. Those two fandoms had so much synergetic overlap, it was great... But MAN was it insufferable at the same time 💀
