Are Video Game Creepypastas Really That Bad?

The funniest detail from a Tails Doll creepypasta is from the version of the story that Shigeru Miyamoto created a spell/ritual/something to purify Sonic R and save you from the curse. The idea of Mario's creator helping erradicate the curse of a Saturn-exclusive Sonic game will never not be funny lmao

One thing that really makes video game creepypastas an uphill battle is the fact that they're video games to begin with. They require you to keep playing. When someone moves into a haunted house, they've presumably dumped thousands of dollars into the property and have nowhere else to move into so you could understand why they'd stay there despite paranormal activity ramping up. A video game you can just shut off.

one of the issues with video game creepypastas is you have to fight your own setting to make it scary if you don't choose the right game. herobrine taps into feelings already present in old minecraft versions, allowing it to really effectively scare kids playing minecraft pocket edition past their bedtime, but something like sonic.exe has to overcompensate intensely for the fact that sonic isn't remotely scary, not because it makes for a better story but because the author wanted to write a sonic creepypasta. its like trying to fit in a puzzle piece that doesn't belong, rather than finding one that fits in the spot you intend.

I remember Something's Scary's take on Pale Luna was it ending with the unearthing of the dump site, and the narrator connecting the dots and realizing the Pale Luna game was a confession/cursed, not a treasure map. It really felt like a better execution.

    Kirby's Deadland theory:
It was written by a stranded time traveler who is trying to survive by making money off of writing a famous creepypasta, but they don't realize that their plan is stupid because being from the future, they were raised by chatgpt.

The joke about it being impossible to get anyone to play Sonic R makes that story actually good just on it own

Buried Alive mentions White Hand and Lavender Town Syndrome in the way it does because those three stories, along with another story called "The Ghost Animation", were all originally apart of one singular story, but were split up over the years for.. Basically no reason. To my knowledge, the original version of the story with all of these together is apparently lost media
