At the risk of being redundant, I wanted to note the Schopenhauer timeline. You show him as 1788-1824. He didn’t pass away until 1860.

Georg Christoph Lichtenberg, maybe not a major influence, but Nietzsche was an admirer of his notebooks.

Your podcasts are the best out there and your voice is so soothing.
Thank you :)

I just skimmed through it to make sure Ralph Waldo Emerson is mentioned. Well done!

The higher production value and sponsorship is a sign of progress. Commenters who don’t like it are weak and botched simple as.

I thought I had forgotten all I learned in my political science degree, but thanks to your videos, it all came back. I believe I now have a better understanding of philosophy than I ever did in college.

A fun game to play is to take a random aphorism from Baltasar Gracian, La Rochefoucauld, or Nietzsche and ask a Nietzsche enthusiast who wrote it.

Re 'Kant argued for what the average person already believed but with comlex and impenetrable arguments the average person couldn't possibly understand.

Probably a big part of why people, when they finally got Kants' points, or had them interpreted for them, had the import of a revelation. So maybe more of a ploy than a joke, even if it was completely unconscious.

(hm, imagining ultra AI designed for perception managment encapsulating messaging for people in this way - just beyond comprehension - They have to crack the nut but what they find inside is a perfect fit. Revelation plus ressonance > taking ownership withmore possessiveness)

It is rather funny IMO, the next octave above dry humor :)
Good for Nietzsche for spotting this!

Great episode, thanks!

His references to other philosophers has definitely sent me down a book buying rabbit hole.

Trying to read Nietzsche is like trying to learn Japanese for me. It takes dedication, and makes me feel incredibly dumb. The man didn’t write for people like me. It seems he wrote for the serious. I have definitely always wished to be able to hang with it. It’s like a fantasy of mine.
Thanks for the recommendations.
