By the way, did you know the channel has a Discord server? (I need to get in the habit of shouting it out more)<br><a href="https://discord.gg/RFrqp2M">https://discord.gg/RFrqp2M</a><br><br>CORRECTIONS:<br>1) When I said "Malay didn't come from within Indonesian borders"... yeah, somehow Malay's origins on Sumatra slipped past me. The "core" of Indonesia (i.e. Western Java) however is still quite far away from this area, so geographically it's a little like if India had picked a modified form of Bengali to be their national language, as a crude example

i only notice one mistake here..... Malay Language was Not from Malaysia, there were no Malaysia & Indonesia back then. the Oldest inscription writen in Malay language was found in Sumatra island while the strongest theory said, the language was from west part of Borneo island.

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOR883VZDtA&t=416">6:56</a> the modern indonesian colloquial term "bego" meaning "stupid" might have derived from this as well

As a Malaysian, I must say that Malacca sultanate is direct descendants of Srivijaya empire which comes from Sumatra island. Yes we did have other ancient Malay kingdoms here in Malay Peninsula like Kedah Tua and Langkasuka, but the versions adopted by the Indonesian forefathers are ultimately born in Sumatra. Sumatra islands is as Malay as Malay Peninsula. In fact, I believe that Malay first become lingua franca during Srivijayan times, then it become lingua franca again during the Malay Sultanate.

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOR883VZDtA&t=182">3:02</a> Malay actually came from Eastern Sumatera.<br><br>The earliest inscription of Malay language was found in South Sumatera province (which is actually located in the Eastern part of Sumatera), the Kedukan Bukit inscription in 683 (7th century). And it's the same with early Malay inscription, all of it was found in Sumatera.<br><br>Malay language became popular in Malay peninsula after Parameswara, a Prince of Palembang who fled Palembang to Singapore, and then founded the Sultanate of Malacca bring also with him his Malay retinue, guards, advisors, etc. Bringing the Malay culture and traditions to the peninsula in the 15th century.<br><br>And today, Malay is one of those 700 languages spoken in Indonesia, especially in Sumatera and Western Borneo.

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOR883VZDtA&t=187">3:07</a> Malay is NOT only spoken in Malaysia. Let me explain. The Malay people's homeland spreads across the east coast of Sumatra, the coast of Borneo, and the Malay Peninsula. The misconception arises because Malaysia got to keep the ethnicity's namesake as its country name. However, due to colonization, the Malay homeland was split into multiple countries: Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, and the southern part of Thailand.<br>Saying "Indonesian is based on Malay, which is NOT spoken in Indonesia, but comes from Malaysia" is not only wrong, it erases centuries of Malay history in the country. In fact, if we go further back, the largest and most significant center of Malay heritage: The Srivijaya Empire was actually centered in Palembang, South Sumatra, not Malaysia.

The pre-European writing system of Malay was a modified Arabic script called Jawi. Some religious Malays still use it but I can't really comprehend it. Also, Malays are not exclusive to Malaysia. The first Malay kingdom recorded was from Jambi and traditional Malay sultans still ruled throughout Sumatra until the 1940s.

Overall a great video, but saying Malay comes from outside Indonesia is a terrible mistake.

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOR883VZDtA&t=704">11:44</a> 'dewa' most probably originates from Sanskrit 'deva' where it has the same meaning
