Old joke: Queen Victoria was inspecting the Highland troops. As she walked down the line, she paused, leaned in toward one lad, and whispered, "Pardon me, solider, but I have always been curious. Is anything worn beneath your kilt?" The Scot stood at attention, kept himself correct, and calmly replied, "No, ma'am, nothing is worn. Everything is in perfect working order."

I've also heard a recommendation on why the length of the kilt should reach just at the knee: "If you wear your kilt above the kneecap, you're being quite risqué. If you wear your kilt below the kneecap, you're just bragging."

Whenever I'm out kilted up, I always get asked (often asked several times by different people the same night) if I'm wearing my kilt 'properly' or not. My response is always the same: "Nothing is worn under the kilt, it's all in perfect working order!"

I wear underwear and bicycle shorts. Prevents chaffing and gives me a sly pocket for my phone on the shorts.

I'm a wheelchair user and went to a concert where a fella was playing the bagpipes in his kilt. Unfortunately I was right up the front at the barrier and a lot lower down than the rest of the audience who were standing. Fella put his leg up on the amp, and I got an eyefull I wasn't expecting 😂
I wish he'd worn a pair of braies or something because I didn't really want to see a random blokes sweaty tackle swaying in the breeze above my head all evening. 😂😂😂

American great kilt wearer here, and I have been wearing one since 1996. It was 2001 or 2002 when I was standing at the bar on St. Patrick’s Day ordering a drink when I felt a draft on my right side of my body up my kilt, and when I turned two young ladies were standing at the bar beside of me. The blonde holding up my kilt to see what I was wearing underneath. Because I was used to this kind of bs, I stared her straight in the eyes and said, “See anything you like?” She immediately dropped my kilt and copped an attitude. Before she or I could say anything else, the bartender said, “If this was reversed, he’d be going to jail. Now, get out of my bar!” I laughed, they left, and it was just another adventure of wearing a kilt in a small American city in the early 2000s, lol.

In 1992, I was doing laundry at a laundromat. The one thing I couldn't wash? That was my kilt. So I'm wearing my kilt and a pair of moccasins and some t-shirt or something the other. I can't remember which and I see an old lady walk by the door of the laundromat looking in. After about a second and a half she backs up a little bit and she's standing here looking like she's having a debate with herself about whether or not to ask " the question".
Is she finally walks in, and tells me? " I'm 65 years old and I've never had the courage to ask this before... Are you wearing anything underneath your kilt?"
I looked her straight up and down and said with a straight face " yep, my boots"
I can proudly say without doing anything nasty that I made an old woman blush.

Well, Scottish men look so fabulous in their kilts, it is no wonder inquiring minds speculate about what lies beneath.

When I'm out and about in my kilt, I commonly get some form of the same question, "What are you wearin' under your kilt?" My answer is always, "Boots."

Food for thought; Trousers/pants were developed by peoples who traditionally rode horses. ie people from the Steppe. So they wouldn't be walking.(even so, some of the oldest riding pants have a very complicated crotch).
I've read some accounts where Highland Soldiers in the 1700s are complaining that the British Government issue kilt is so small they can no longer use it as a blanket for sleeping. They claimed it was the government cutting corners.
Lastly, yes... I remember being told in the Highland Regiment I was in to go "Regimental" when wearing the kilt. Even so, there were a few who claimed they were allergic to wool or it was too itchy and wore underwear anyway.
Great video by the way. Always enjoy your vids.

Because of hills most then may have had MORE muscular thighs, wearing trousers causes ingrown hairs if hiking so I hike in a skirt and that causes uproar in West USA. I think it's biomechanical. Kilts.
Lowlanders as you say have twigs for legs. Hills make a different body shape.
