I appreciate the way you breakdown everything. There’s so much variety between these shows that you really do have so many options!
My personal favorites are still tied between the 1987 and 2003. It’s interesting because they are so different but I love them both equally. I love the characterization of the 87 series and the 03 series for the plot. But I love the interactions between the characters in both series so much.
My third place is definitely the 2012 series. It takes a lot of elements of the previous series and combos them together and for the most part it works well. Honestly, what pulls it down for me is how they handled Michelangelo (who is my favorite) and the love triangle. Fix those issues and it really raises the quality.
Rise I haven’t really gotten into but I do love the brotherly interactions and the characterization for Donnie.
I just have not been able to get into Mutant Mayhem. That’s not a knock on it because it’s well made but I just think it’s not for me.

To me, the 1980's Ninja Turtles is like shredded cheese. Everything that show innovated from the slightly different designs of the Turtles to the more silly concepts and humor can be added into other Turtles media, generally making them better for it. And heck, sometimes you will catch me standing next to fridge, just eating shredded cheese by itself at 2 or 3 in the morning. But at the same time, I wouldn't want an entire meal that just consisted of shredded cheese, you know? That is to say that I like the 1980's show in small bursts, but i can't bring myself to binge it like other cartoons and other versions of the Turtles.

The 2012 show is like when my mom makes spaghetti for dinner. It's something I've had for years, it always brings me joy when I eat it, and I will happily enjoy it at any time or any place. Never gets old.

Rise of the Ninja Turtles is like eating at a restaurant that everyone said was bad at first, but then you take a chance and check it out, only to be blown away by how good the food actually is. I swear, people need to give it a chance.

For me, both the 2003 series and 2024 Tales of the TMNT are two dishes that I've heard good things about, I just haven't had a chance to check them out. I'm sure I would like them if I could try it though.

And lastly, The Next Mutation is like haggis. I'm sure some people like it, but if you know what Haggis is, then I'm sure you will understand my apprehension to even give it a chance.

I don't know why I'm i went with food metaphors, but here we are. That's my thoughts on each show.

As a kid growing up in the 90's, i knew about the TMNT, i remember watching the 1990 movie as a kid. But it wasn't until the 2003 series that i really got into the Ninja turtles. For me, the 2003 series is my favorite version of the characters, i love Leonardo 's struggles with inadequacy as well as seeing the brothers overcome various challenges. I also appreciate that its the closest to the mirage comics when it comes to characterizations and tone.
The 2012 series took som e getting used to, but ive come to enjoy the series, particularly how it balances the wacky aspects of the 87 series with the seriousness and ninja action of the mirage/ 03 series. It also has arguably my favorite version of Leonardo, whos portrayed as more of a dork but grows in the role as leader, yet, still retains his dorkiness.
I tend to lean towards the action adventure aspects of the turtles more than the comedic interpretations, though its cool seeing the turtles reinvented throughout their 40 year history, it speaks to their appeal
