  I am trying to help a close friend get sober with support and love and AA meetings. Even though drinking is not his major vice AA gives support where it is much needed for addicts and loved ones. Alanon helps with family members affected as well. Anything and everything helps ...

  &quot;Alcohol is cunning, baffling and powerful.&quot; I would add &quot;patient&quot;. &nbsp;It will wait 10, 20, 30 years to return to your loving embrace and surrender. And it&apos;s always talking to you. At least this is my experience. After my wife of 35 years had died, my eldest child told me that she was surprised that I had not started drinking. I suggested that she did not understand the nature of alcohol or the nature of her father. <br><br>The temptation to drink was dancing around me, calling me and telling me we could forget all that pain and sorrow and loss within the whiskey dance, but I had promised my wife before she ever kissed me that I would try to stop drinking. I cautiously say that nothing can make me drink today but my own damned self, and after 36 years without alcohol I trust myself enough to get to bed sober tonight. <br><br>I wish all who struggle with their dragons the best, and I hope their &quot;vorpal&quot; blades go &quot;snicker snack&quot;
