  This ex-Mormon former mid-1980’s missionary understands your feelings fully.  I came out on my mission, and left the church upon completing my mission.  My husband and I just celebrated our 32nd anniversary.  Had I stayed a Mormon, “turning it off”, my life would have been robbed of every happiness that one enjoys when married to and raising a child with the person you love.   Still living in Utah, whenever I have met a young gay Mormon, I encourage them with everything I have to leave the church…and to go find their happiness.

  The original song has a bit about one of the missionary's sister having cancer and dying while he was in line to get the new iPhone at the Apple Store. Her very last words were "where is my brother?" Pretty great😅

  "But I'm a Cheerleader" is a funny satirical movie about conversion camp. Recommend. Stars Natasha Lyon, Clea DuVall and Ru Paul as a camp counselor.

  This song was all-male on Broadway, but this looks like a local production. &nbsp;They probably didn&apos;t have enough male tap dancers, so they added women to the chorus.<br><br>It was also a way to use their white female performers. &nbsp;There aren&apos;t a lot of white women in the show as written... &nbsp;it&apos;s about white male missionaries going to Africa.

  Atheists call it [child] abuse for the very reason you just experienced [sadly among many others we&apos;re sure]<br>Coming to grips with what you were told and what&apos;s true, or what we simply don&apos;t know, is just one step of the separation. It has been an inspiring journey seeing you walking through bits &amp; pieces of it on screen. You are open about your experiences and share it raw. For us viewers that&apos;s not only an intimate view into the mindset and process, but also a learning curve.   I think you will find the show very confronting @HailHeidi, because the whole story is a journey of disillusionment while on a mission. It will hit really hard for a former missionary who is still coming to terms with some of the uncomfortable-ness. I really appreciate your honest reflection and thank you for sharing it with us. I was definitely not disappointed that you didn&apos;t laugh much. The show is funny, but it is also very sincere in its questioning of sensitive topics.

  The key difference between a cult and a religion is that in a cult there is someone at the top who knows it&apos;s a scam. &nbsp;In a religion that person is long dead and the people they scammed took over and ran with it.

  Conversion therapy is still around in other denominations. &nbsp;My daughter loves &quot;The Book of Mormon&quot; and has seen it on state.
