  It just makes me so mad that someone who has committed a murder is able to be released and then is able to murder again. It's wrong.

  I was at a lake in the mountains one time. Very deserted type area. But there were two fishermen. They were on opposites corners of the lake which was a triangular sort of shape. But I noticed one of the men inclining his head in my direction, and the other man acknowledging him. The men, started side stepping, towards me, one on my left and one on my right. &nbsp;I&apos;ve only fished a couple of times in my life, but I knew that you need to reel in your line before moving, otherwise your line will get angled. &nbsp;They were up to something. I took off up the mountain side behind me and ran the entire way, probably 3/4 of a mile back to my car.<br> That was the last time I have ever gone out into the woods alone.

  Hiking/backpacking 101: Never go alone, never go unarmed or without bear spray, never hike with new and untested gear, &nbsp;never hike on or near an active volcano, &nbsp;shelter in hardened structures or evacuate, &nbsp;stay away from cliff edges, don&apos;t hike in the dark, prepare for inclement weather, don&apos;t hike/walk/camp in dry river/stream beds, bring food and water.

  Meredith was directly responsible for the capture of her killer, and for getting justice for other victims, and for stopping the killer from murdering others in the future.

  The first tragedy reminds me of the murder of a woman a few years ago in Atlanta. &nbsp;She’d gotten home from work a bit later than usual, so her normal walk with her dog in the park across the street was near dusk, but there were still other people about, although some distance away (it’s a very large park). &nbsp;As she was walking, a man jumped out of the bushes and attacked her. &nbsp;Her pitbull went pitbull on the attacker, but unfortunately was restrained by the leash its owner held in her hand, so it was unable to, literally, unleash fully its defense of her. &nbsp;Our muscles tighten up in stress and we hang onto whatever we’re holding in our hands, additionally, we want to protect our dogs. You’ll see police officers encounter a lethal threat while holding their flashlight, a notepad, papers, in their hand and shoot their weapons without a set grip, because of the items they’ve unconsciously held onto. &nbsp;If you hike with your dog on a leash, get in your mind that if you encounter danger to let the leash go, so your dog has free rein to defend you or can at least run for help. &nbsp;It’s counterintuitive, I know, because we want to protect our pups by keeping them close, but dropping the leash is actually the best way to defend them.
