As someone who's been around drums for 60 years, Collins is the perfect drummer. Technically and artistically brilliant. Incredibly imaginative, he had the chops to fulfill wherever his imagination would take him.

Carl Palmer of Emerson Lake and Palmer was the goat who really started progressive rock drumming.

Peart said a whole lot more than that about Collins. Called his playing on SEBTP "an enduring masterpiece of rock drums", all his progressive period playing "lyrical, exciting, technically accomplished" and one of his greatest influences in how to play odd-times with beaitiful flow and feel.

I worked with a man who was in a bar at 1 AM in NYC. The drummer didn't show up for the gig.

Buddy was there, and played that night.
