my interpretation of the rainbow fish was always that the rainbow fish was a people pleaser and that the rest of the fish unknowingly took advantage of them by asking them for more and more scales, and even as a child i always thought that the moral of the story was that you didn't always have to please others if it would ruin yourself to do so.

remember kids. in america it's bad to ask for a warm blanket when you're cold and worse to stop doing chores because the cold gave you pnumonia.

I used to be scared of the gruffalo as a kid. I thought he would eat me in my sleep.

Honestly, I didn't find A Bad Case of Stripes disturbing and terrifying as a kid, but as an adult, now I do.

A bad case of stripes really frightened me a lot and the idea of her growing into her room is horrifying

The hatred towards click clack Moo is wild. It’s about getting what you deserve for the services you provide. How can you be against that!

Bad case of stripes was one of my favorite childhood books growing up, I mainly liked it cause of the creativity and colors, and just the simple message of eating your favorite vegetables or food too, regardless of who thinks it's good or not

There’s a traditional chinese proverb, 狐假虎威, that feels strangely similar to the gruff, where the fox about to be eaten by a tiger tells it that the fox was the king of the forest or something like that, and says something along the lines of, if you wont believe me, we can take a walk around the forest, and the tiger, seeing the animals being afraid (of him), assumes that the fox was telling the truth and lets him go.

I think a lot of parents and non-parental figures forget that they aren’t the target audience, kids are. Even if they can somewhat process a message about government or unionizing, kids will most likely come to the most simplistic answer for the lesson. Like, most kids won’t think “I’m gonna start a workers union when I grow up”, they’ll think “the cows want some blankets so the farmer should give them some.”

To be honest I think it's good that Gruffalo shows that lying is good sometimes. Being honest all the time leaves one vulnerable, meanwhile lying can really save your or someone else's skin sometimes. Honesty is a virtue, yes, but not everyone around you has the best of intentions and sometimes deceiving others is genuinely the better choice - like in the story, if the mouse admitted to making up the Gruffalo or simply tried to run off, he'd likely end up getting eaten. So yeah, lying to people looking to take advantage of you and not letting them is a good thing.

Not to mention that the predators themselves lie to the mouse about their intentions, with only the Gruffalo being upfront about wanting to eat him. So it's only fair to deceive those in turn trying to deceive you.
