Excellent video thank you so much. Not long before he passed away. I went to the 55 bar to see Mike Stern play with Jeff Andrews and Adam Nusbaum. Midway through the set he comes into the club. It’s the middle of February in New York City probably 15° Fahrenheit outside and comes in wearing jeans, a very thin sweater and sneakers with no socks on. He walked up to the band stand and tried to interact with the musicians. They kind of said hello but ignored him at the same time. I saw him walk out a few minutes later .After the set was over, I was walking to take the subway home to Brooklyn at W. 4th St. and sixth Avenue. There are very famous basketball courts right there and here it is 12:30 in the morning in the middle of February and Jaco is playing imaginary basketball on that court, running up and down the court with no ball And calling the game as if he was Marv Albert. It was incredibly depressing and sad. Incredibly sad that he never got the help he needed so that we could’ve had another 30 or 40 years of his genius on this planet.

In my opinion, Sweetnighter is the album that best exemplifies the core idea of Weather Report: Everyone solos and no-one solos. Wonderfully cohesive. Jazz funk supreme! Do agree that the Night Passage album is one of their best, with Jaco's song "Three Views of a Secret" a highlight.

I saw the Mr Gone tour and it was absolutely phenomenal. The whole band killed it, Jaco's energy was incredible.

Great video Andy! I am a massive fan of Weather Report but was knocked out when he played on Joni's Hejira - he really made that bass sing. Turned the bass into a lead guitar. I did not know that he was practically tee-total into the 1980s; assumed he was close to alcohol and drugs from an early age. Thanks for putting me straight. Loved your first Weather Report video as well. My favourite band of all time.

Peter Erskine was a great player and a even better person, met him once years ago and he really was a true gentlemen.

The best documentary about Jaco is the ‘lost tapes’ documentary which is on YouTube!

Andy I really enjoy when you deliver content in this way. Not necessarily in the documentary format, though these are always excellent because you include little tidbits not commonly found in other sources, but the more chill narrative - not so strident. I don't mean that as a criticism, because I understand that many of those videos are a sort of trolling, or to generate controversy in a humorous way, which are also enjoyable at times, but I find I have to be in a certain mood to watch those, while this type of delivery is suitable for all moods. While these documentary things probably take more time to make, they are very enjoyable and stand up amidst a sea of content.

A lot has been said about the relationship between Jaco and Zawinul. You gotta give it to Joe who wrote songs that were centered around the talent and sound of Jaco's bass playing. He wrote: Cannon Ball, A Remark You Made, Dream Clock, Speechless with Jaco's sound in mind. Jaco's style also fit wonderful with Joe's musical philosophy of "we all solo, we never solo."
