  Back in 1987, when your SJ was built, I was working as a salesman at a Suzuki dealership in Scotland. Farmers used to laugh at us when we tried to sell them; that was until we demonstrated them on their farms. "Show me where your Land Rover won't go" Then, we'd proceed to go there. I remember once having the old farmer in the passenger seat, well he wasn't - he had the window rolled down and was hanging half out of it, making sure that we didn't roll over. We got to the top of wherever it was and he bought it. They sold well for us - they were cheap, easy to maintain, rugged-ish, would go anywhere you were brave enough to attempt. Problem was, they were never really designed for haring down motorways at speed. When the yuppies got a hold of them, what happened? They drove them like a normal car, pushed the limits and they rolled, to much press fanfare. That kind of put a dent in sales - all the flashy, logoed, fancy wheel model sales died off. But not the cheapo, bog-standard farmers models...

  Cam belt on sj 410 is very easy whole engine is easy to work on most stuff on splines.  It’s like working on a sewing machine ! Loved mine in the late nineties 👍 did have problems with old diagrams in the carb !

  Everyone needs to experience installing a pioneer system and seeing the dolphin graphics come to life. Also making an mdf parcel shelf and installing some 6x9 or 7x10s ready to bang out some old skool garage... "with a little bit of luck you make it through the..." install 😂

  I Once bought a Red (allegedly) Suzki Swift for 150 quid with a Full MOT, only to discover that the drivers seat belt was held in by STAPLES!! I got a new belt from a scrapyard and a new window mechanism with the intention of using it until the MOT it came with ran out. I then had a fit of concience, and put it in for a fresh MOT just to see how bad it was. To my utter surprise it passed !! It was 40 shades of pink but it went on to pass 2 more MOT'S  before a JCB reversed into it on site and finally killed it.  He broke the offside light cluster and pulled off the bumper, but the parts alone were twice as much as I paid for the car in the first place, & I got 50 from the scrapman! Bangernomics in action!

  I changed a timing belt "cam belt" on an 04 Hyundai Sonata V6...230,xxx miles, 18 years old... It was barely starting to crack and the water pump was weeping. I bought the car from the original owner who serviced the car religiously but never even thought about the belt. Car is 23 years old now and has 244,xxx (my mom drives it) on it. Inside of the engine looked brand new...a true testimant to changing the oil! But back to the belt, they do break from age and heat, but they will go longer than the recommended time and miles apparently lol I did run a Camry till it broke(non interference engine), fixed it and drove another 100,xxx before I sold it lol
