If you’re just getting started growing in containers and feeling overwhelmed, my ebook was written to make Florida gardening simpler and less confusing. It even has a section on container growing for each vegetable. It’s linked below.
https://homegrownflorida.myshopify.com

I'm blown away by the green stalk. Things I tried in the soil or grow bags last year that didn't do well are thriving in the green stalk

As a novice owned greenstalks for 2 years now the only ones that work are swiss chards, chinese broccoli, carrots, eggplant (patio variety), scallions, and herbs.

I planted 2 rounds of greenbeans in 4 green stalks last year and canned over 50 quarts of beans. My greenbeans do so well in the green stalks that i no longer plant them in my garden beds. It is so nice to sit in my chair and harvest the beans and not have to bend over. I did purchase the plant supports for each tier to hold the plants.

First time GreenStalk gardener as of June 2. I'm in NH I don't know the zone, but got the GS & Happy Frog Soil & filled two 5 tiers, got 10 pockets with bare root June bearing strawberries and the other 50 pockets got seeds on June 3. That's it. I watered every day and I now water every other day! We've been eating out of the GS and we even got strawberries in July on all the plants! Now I just had to buy a 4 tier planter just for strawberries - they went NUTS and there are runners galore! Never grew them before I'm amazed. We don't have much luck even with raised beds which we've done for years but the squirrels & chipmunks get most of it. We're too old now to bother with that, but I can sit on my gardening bench if I need to work on the lower tiers and I can stand up to work on the upper tiers. I LOVE THEM!! We've gotten many meals already and there are more coming until it's too cold to grow anything. I'm on the 4th planting of lettuce and have done 2 plantings of the Yellow Bush Beans and 4 plantings of the English Breakfast Radishes. I could never get any radishes to grow in the ground, they thrive in the GreenStalk for me! I have Cherry Falls Tomatoes that are giving us a dozen a day now blush color I pick them. I have 2 Ace 55 tomatoes in 1 pocket and those are just now starting to get blooms - don't know if they'll have time to ripen. I hope so! Also have Giant Jalapeno's, Banana & Green Peppers growing each in their own pocket - loaded with flowers AND fruits!! I could never get any growing them in the ground. The lettuce did well, on the 3rd planting of that now too. The Romanesco Squash we got 2, now another is growing. I would like much more but not to be. The male & female flowers don't open up together so it's impossible to get them pollinated. The Persian Muncher Cukes are on their 2nd batch of new leaves & flowers - we got 6 all together on 3 vines in one pocket. I have 8 sugar baby watermelon growing on 3 plants in 3 pockets - awesome!! The carrots & beets have greens but can't tell if they're forming under ground or not. The Scallions same thing. The Chives are wonderful though along with the Thyme, Basil, Oregano & Parsley. I have Thumbelina Zinnia's one pocket in both GS and they are thriving and the bees LOVE them! The brussels sprouts are growing, time will tell how they end up doing, and I have 2 pockets of Fennel that are doing awesome! So is the one pocket of Celery. The Leeks I don't know until it's time to pull them from the pocket. The Swiss Chard I am now picking little by little and they look GOOD. The Dwarf Kale is still going strong even though I've picked it down to nothing 3 times already! The Cilantro I used but it went to seed so fast, not worth growing again & wasting a pocket of soil! The same with Little Gem romaine lettuce. It grew great in 2 pockets - 1 pocket had the most beautiful head but then I picked it for dinner and the whole inside was a bed of Earwigs. It went in the trash can. Disgusting. The other pocket had 2 plants but no heads so I did pick those and eat them after washing them very well. I had one pocket of Collards even tho we've never eaten them - but didn't get any. I just left them in the pocket because it was the only thing some bugs were eating. I won't plant that again. So all in all I am thrilled with the Greenstalks ease of use. I don't have much luck watering from the Top and that was full of Earwigs too when I opened it - but I got rid of them with a jar of olive oil & soy sauce that I put into each water trough. Disgusting creatures. I will sit during the winter to decide what to grow next year. We cannot lift the tiers off each other so my son will have to help us so I can refresh the soil in the spring. The 4 tier with the strawberry plants will be covered and put into the garage. We cannot move the two 5 tier planters though so can't even think of getting them into the garage. So that is my success and failures up here in the northeast. I would say I have more success than not. I know that by planting 1 or 2 seeds per pocket we're not going to get enough of that item to feed a party - but we have enough to get 1-2 meals out of it for the both of us and that's what counts!! There is nothing like having fresh veggies & fruit in season - delicious!! Every yard is different - the rain, the weather, the available sunshine - so keep planting and have FUN!

I have had fabulous harvests of banana and jalapeño peppers in my greenstalk originals. They’ve overwintered for 3 years (I thought they would only last 2 years!). Zone 9a.

I have 11 green stalks and plant any and everything in them. With great success! The fertilizer is the key!

Bell peppers do better for me in the greenstalk than in the ground. Hot peppers are less fussy. Thai hot peppers are dwarf they are less than a foot tall, and very productive so they do well in greenstalks. I stopped growing strawberries in Greenstalks. They grow well, but the slugs, birds and beetles take a toll unless I put an insect cover over the entire Greenstalk. ( It does not stop the slugs). Lettuce does well. I do grow bush beans and I do put 3 seeds in a pocket, but not all three survive. Beans do better in containers for me because they do not like clay soil. I have grown Chard, Tokyo Bekana, Komatsuna, and Kale in greenstalks. They get a bit tight, so I start them in the Greenstalk and transplant them out to the garden when they are bigger. Kale has a large root system. I could not grow anything else in the other pockets. I am going to try the baby bok choy (although slugs may still be a problem). I am growing cilantro. I have grown annual basil, but basil will do better in a separate container. I am going to try shogoin turnips in the original tier. It is not as big as Minowase daikon. I do grow bunching onions in the greenstalk. They do very well. I have my Greenstalk on a spinner so I turn it every day. It is also good for planting small annual flowers like nasturtiums, alyssum, dwarf marigoldss. I plant these pollinator flowers around my garden to attract pollinators and predators.

Hey I just saw the video Jess from Roots and Refuge did for the Greenstalk and she mentioned this video and left the link in the description of her video. I was so happy to see her talking about you because it reminded me I wanted to try and grow sweet potatoes in my Greenstalk. Thanks for sharing ❤

9b Florida - I put I original tiers of lemon drop hot peppers on top of my strawberry leaf split into two towers and it shades them through the summer heat - the pepper plants actually survived the winter too! I'm getting berries off of fall 2024's bare roots/runners 🍓😁 thanks for sharing your experience, I've learned a lot!
