As a dude, this isn't an anti-man song: it's a song about what's right and what's wrong. If, as a man, you take offense to it, then you're part of the problem. What an incredibly powerful message AND so damn catchy!!!

    Speaking as a man this song isn't Anti-man, it's Anti-oppression. There's a difference.

I have a coworker who has LIVED this song. She grew up with abusive parents, her first husband was emotionally AND physically abusive, and her current husband won't lift a finger to help her with anything. I played this song for her and she started crying. This song speaks to so many people for so many reasons.

I had been able to see a Paris concert. At the "all day, everyday" part, she went quiet. The millions of tired woman, including me, started SCREAMING our lungs out, singing the song. And omfg u could FEEL the feminine rage. Everyone started crying

My grown son and my husband are not threatened by this song. If you are a man and find this song offensive....it was written for you.

I’m a Korean(South :) man, and as I watch this video, I can’t help but feel that the lyrics perfectly mirror my mother’s life. Because of Korea’s patriarchal system, she had to work her entire life for my father. I’m 30 years old, and I see how serious the gender conflict in Korea has become. I personally believe that men are largely at fault. Even though I didn’t directly contribute to this system, I feel a sense of guilt simply for being a man, as a result of what the past has created. I will do my best to help eliminate gender conflict in the future.

Update — 9 August 2026
It's been a few years since I wrote my original comment, and I wanted to come back and leave an update.
Every time I hear this song, I still think of my mother. And simply because I'm a man, I still feel this deep, almost unbearable sense of guilt. So many people responded to my original comment with kindness and support, and because of that, I've tried to let go of that guilt. But even after all these years, I don't think it's something that will disappear so easily.

There was a reason the lyrics reminded me so deeply of my mother's life.
My father used to beat my mother often. Sometimes he would come home drunk with a kitchen knife in his hand, screaming at her and threatening to stab her to death. I grew up hearing my mother's screams. I remember being a terrified child, seeing her blood on the floor and not knowing what to do. Even now, those memories are still incredibly vivid. Whenever I hear this song, it all comes flooding back.

Eventually, as my father got older and I grew big enough to stand up to him, I think around middle school or high school, I started stepping between him and my mother and protecting her.
Ever since then, I haven't been able to stand seeing a man bully, humiliate, or mistreat a woman. I think anyone who grew up through something like I did would understand why.

In Northeast Asia, we have an expression called "jeokbanhajang" (적반하장, 賊反荷杖). There are similar expressions in Chinese, such as "恶人先告状" (è rén xiān gào zhuàng), and in Japanese, "盗人猛々しい" (nusubito takedakeshii). They all describe essentially the same kind of absurdity: the person who did wrong turns around and acts as though they're the victim, blaming or attacking the person they wronged instead.

My father is much older now, to the point where he can barely walk on his own. And yet, after all these years, he still hasn't apologized. Even so, part of me still believes that one day, he will.

As for me, my life has moved forward.

I met a woman I love, married her, and we built a family together. We're doing well. We don't fight, we share the housework, and we live a peaceful life together.
We also have two cats, a boy and a girl. I'm the one who trims their claws and cleans their litter box, haha.
I know those might sound like small, ordinary things. But after growing up in the kind of home that I did, being able to build a peaceful family of my own means more to me than I can really put into words.

And if you ever get the chance, I hope you'll come visit Korea someday.
Seoul is good, of course, but I don't like Seoul. I especially recommend visiting BUSAN city. It's less crowded and hectic than Seoul, the public transportation is excellent, and with the sea right beside the city, it's an incredibly beautiful place.
And if you're interested in Korean history and traditional culture, I also recommend visiting Gyeongju and Bulguksa Temple.
If you ever make it here, I hope Korea leaves you with some good memories. Take care, wherever you are in the world. :)
