The fact that the switch cartridge port was originally designed for another console makes a lot of sense, especially when considering how the cart slot has its own firmware with fuses and whatnot. Always felt strange.

I get why they wanted to merge home consoles with portables, but I sure miss having simpler games but full of charm like the 3ds catalog

Nintendo had something unique: clamshell portable console, dual screen, one touch screen and one 3D screen. By some reason they left that to die. No other company has filled that place.

This implies that Nintendo had a build of Mario Kart 8 with ARM tooling ready to go when the Switch launched. This would make a lot of Mario Kart 8 on the Switch start to make sense.

Knowing about the portable and dock-able GameCube concept makes me very happy to know that Iwata knew about and was able to be a part of the planning of the Nintendo Switch longer than just a few years, even if he never got to see the final thing.
