The day my CDs leave my house will be when my kids clean out my house after I kick the bucket. I paid for them.

I would never get rid of my CDs. I had a hard drive fail once and lost my music collection. Fortunately, I saved my CDs.

Always keep your cds for backups.

You could easily regret giving up the CDs.

I have 3,500+ CDs and will never get rid of them. Once I’m gone, well, it will be my family’s decision.

Just some food for thought…when my PC was upgraded to a newer version of windows, something happened with the transfer of my music files and subsequently a bunch of songs have lil glitches in them. I had to replace hundreds of songs, which was a pain but at least I still had the original cd’s to replace them. Always keep your physical media and NEVER trust a hard drive!

I thought you had to keep an original to have a personal 'licence' allowing you to legally retain a 'copy'. Also if you look at the base of any insert it does say Reproduction prohibited but keeping the original under UK law at least allows for one digital copy as long as the original is kept.

I am more of a physical guy who enjoys sitting down and going through the collection and picking my cd or record.

I have ripped some rare/not easy to download cd and records. but i always use my physical media

Keep the CDs unless you run out of space. If you must get rid of CDs, make a backup first. Once you get rid of certain CDs, you may never be able to replace them.

It's the LAW! Legally you must own the physical disc to keep a ripped copy. There was(?) a company that would warehouse your physical media for you and send it back or sell it when told.

He has the CDs backed up on DropBox? Back in the '90s I gave away half of my LPs and have regretted it ever since. I came close to getting rid of over a thousand CDs but luckily I procrastinated. Now although I stream music I'm back to buying LPs and CDs.
