I’m a bit sad that Erik Holmberg wasn’t mentioned. As early as 1941, he was already modeling the collision and eventual 'death' of galaxies in a darkened gymnasium. Long before supercomputers, he was the first to truly witness how the structures of our universe decline and fade away. He deserves more credit for pioneering cosmic simulations

I actually prefer the big crunch the most, since this way, before everything dies, everything gets much closer together and sentient beings get to experience more of the glory of the universe. Also, I like the idea that it could result in another big bang and that this process might already have happened countless times in the past.
