  The “mad as hell” speech is the most famous, but it’s Ned Beatty’s monologue that is the true masterpiece IMO.

  Sidney Lumet and Paddy Cheyefsky were adamant in saying that the movie is NOT a satire but a statement on where they saw television going.

  One of the most prophetic movies ever made. I grew up in the 70's. As Diana said "the american people have turned sullen....they've been clobbered on all sides by Vietnam, Watergate, the inflation, the depression, they've tuned out, shot-up, and f*cked themselves limp, and NOTHING HELPS!!!".  And here we are now in 2025.

  Great reaction, guys.  I worked for 40 years in a medium size television market as a director of live local "Eyewitness News" shows.  I was the person in the control room calling the shots. . ."Take Cam 1. . .Roll the video. . .Set Cam 3 on a 2-shot right. . .Take 3."  And even in a market that size, I saw a version of this kind of thing happening increasingly over the years.  The same kind of "game" was being played, just with fewer dollars.  By the time I retired I was so happy to be free of the manufactured stress that had to be dealt with every day.  I think I stayed for so long because it was a unique job and even with the stress it was a kind of "entertaining" atmosphere.  On some days it was like I was watching a dramatic TV show instead of actually being part of it.  Prophetic film for sure. . .Again, nice reaction!

  Great job, guys. The 70s weren't darker than the 80s. It's just that 70s movies reflected real life more. The 80s is when everything became full blown corporate & real life got glossed over.

  I loved this film. I also love how it basically predicted the rise of FOX<br><br>The Hospital is a biting excellent satire about the state of medicine. It&apos;s grisly and funny. Not a very commercial piece but fascinating. It&apos;s the type of script that would attract actors like George C Scott and Diana Rigg. And Rigg is playing very from against type
