having done plenty of DIY over the years, kitchens, bathrooms, vehicles etc. I thought i ‘knew’ what was needed. Didn’t know about the lower speed for the HSS drill bits though. Thanks bud.

I am absolutely terrible at cutting and I’ve used every tool that you can purchase to get the line straight doesn’t work Work I’ve used masking tape. I’ve used cutting in brushes. What is the most effective way because it drives me insane. I have a bit of a tremor, so trying to get a straight line is a bit difficult for me.

When drilling a hole through walls installing cable services I remember we (all us new recruits) were sent on a course to be taught how to do it without blow-outs. There was no measuring walls or marking the drill bits in any way, it was all on the tone of the drill as you went though the bricks. When you're about to break through (very distinguishable change in the noise which is hard to describe) just take the drill off hammer. In all the hundreds and hundreds of holes I drilled through walls I never had a single blow-out.

I've just finished watching a bit more and not once did we drill outside in, always inside to outside and always at a slight down angle.

When you use a marker or isolation tape for marking a drill bit, it is only temporary because the heat destroys the marking; I personally use correction fluid, you can drill all day without the marking disappearing.

Would have liked to see you drill from inside to outside on the brick blow-out section, to compare like with like.

Now I'm surprised that tool companies don't add the button level incorporated into the back of their drills. Simple and should be easy for the companies and a game changer as they say.

When drilling mild steel, first centre punch to make a dimple, add a cutting compound, this will save a lot of heartache, and also drill bits.
