The price of the food should not determine the amount of tip. My grandfather use to say - it takes the same effort to bring me a hotdog as it does to bring me a steak.

Don't ever tell the public "if you can't afford to tip, you shouldn't eat out". I say, if you rely on your tips for living, you should get different job. More people eat in because of the tipping culture and businesses are closing creating zero jobs.

I was a server at one time in my life and really those waiters do not have to work at a restaurant either

Here's a different point of view, Amazon, usps and FedEx don't get tips and they deliver daily. On top of that they deliver items worth more than food related altogether. So no the tipping society is getting greedy.
