  For years I was a medical driver for Rogue Valley Manor Retirement Community here in Medford OR. At that time there was a great deal of WWII veterans living there. Many of them with very interesting stories and history. One of those residents I had the privilege to know was a man name Stan Luther. Beautiful person to know. We would talk quite a bit taking with him going to and from his medical appointments. &nbsp;In WWII he piloted B-25 Mitchell&apos;s in pacific on combat missions. He later went on to fly the nuclear armed B-47 bomber. He would tell me about the technique they practiced on pitching the nuke out the belly of the B-47. And even after that he was one of a very few pilots who transitioned from bombers to fighters. Then he flew F4 Phantoms in Vietnam. I always very much enjoyed talking with Stan.

  These types of videos got me through my youth. Not that I&apos;m old by any means. But I really wished I&apos;d had lived through the golden age of aerospace. I couldn&apos;t imagine the perception of life when breaking the sound barrier was an accomplishment. When planes were designed by slide rule rather than computers. When engines were as smokey as they were loud. We need to cherish this part of us...

  Balls of steel is what was required to pilot this beast. Much, much respect to the men that did this job to protect us during the Cold War.

  Trained on B-52/KC-135 autopilot/compass systems in 1963. &nbsp;My first assignment though, was at a base still flying the B-47E&apos;s and EB-47L&apos;s. &nbsp; &nbsp;I really enjoyed working on those planes when I first got to that base in January, 1964.

  Man I love seeing these old military films (example at <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HC_mpi4ULBU&amp;t=465">7:45</a>). They were almost always either soap-opera acting, or badly read out to the camera (I guess like I would have been in school).

  When your bomber is so aerodynamically clean it becomes dangerous. Easily the most beautiful medium/heavy bomber ever created.

  Having gotten up close to a B47 at Plattsburg AFB, it&apos;s surprising how small it is compared to more recent aircraft.
