WE need a video on Naomi’s intelligence. I’ve never seen an SCD vid on her

I love Near. He is SUCH an intricate and complex character, i hate seeing it get dismissed amongst the fandom since he's so hated. He really is my favorite character to pick apart.
You've brought up so many incredible points that a lot of people miss. I adore this analysis THANK YOU

Gotta stan my fellow Near defender💖love that you bring up literally EVERY DETAIL that was cut from the manga. People who only watch the anime must be so confused, but Near's quest for Kira is such a tedious grind where every little crumb matters. And when the anime butchers its source material all that intricacy is lost. So Death Note is a rare case where I absolutely would shamelessly pressure people to read the manga 😂I would say that only 30% of part 2 has been adapted and that is a disservice to the story and its audience.

Fun fact, Near’s dub voice actress is Cathy Weseluck, who you might also recognize as the voice of Shampoo from Ranma 1/2 or as Kid Trunks in DBZ, as the dub for Death Note was done by Ocean Productions

I wish there were a new storyline for Death Note where a student from Wammy’s House comes into contact with the Death Note, but he doesn’t want to become the god of a new world or obsess over surpassing a mentor.

I think it would be much more interesting if the student’s philosophy were that justice is not enough. He sees justice as merely a law or rule that keeps society balanced. And then you have an adult Near taking an interest in catching him!

Just imagine that: a student who knows how Wammy’s students operate and understands their mentor’s methodology.

Favorite character. <3

I recently have been rereading death note and considered mapping out all the feats of intelligence displayed and seemingly overlooked by characters in the main series manga. I actually feel like, on second run through, the deductions done in the latter half of the story were simply better. A lot of L's feats were hollow. They were personality analysis, and the deductions part of a much more narrow game. He had just light and potentially misa to deal with, and while he seemingly outwitted them, it's far far far less convoluted than the mess that was the three way deadlock of near, mello, and light in part two, especially with mikami being an intelligent character to also contend with. It just feels like the web of depth to the reasoning in part one is akin to simpler riddles. The kinds of schemes and reasoning that one could sort out as a viewer. Part two felt far more like logic puzzles where you have to keep track of multiple people's information, making deductions about their actions on the basis of assuming they have perfect reasoning. Those kinds of puzzles are notoriously hard, and should be considered as such, it's much more difficult to navigate multiple actors with their own behaviors than a one on one scenario.

My sense rereading the story is that, given just the feats and how personally impressive I found them to be, mello and near were both on L's level in different ways. Both of them seemed to make the most of their information, extract information as effectively as L given their unique positions, and frankly, near and mello made a fool of light multiple times. I don't think it was just him being "sloppy", their deductions were genuinely worthy of comparison to L, and even an on guard light would have a hard time with them the same way he had a hard time with L.
