Was Shepard set up as a scapegoat in Arrival?

  To answer the title beforehand. Yes. Hackett wanted the job done by the best and Shephard was MORE than perfect, they fit the credentials needed to run the operation, theyre an alliance marine, Cerberus black operative, and citadel spectre all rolled into one plausibly deniable package because officially on all records they are dead. So if Shep gets caught before during or after he can say "you caught shepard? No thats impossible. Theyre dead"

  Enjoyed listening in on this, Hackett if memory serves isn&apos;t above using Shep to do some dirty work, if memory serves in ME1 there&apos;s a mission where you can broker a treaty between the alliance and an armed merc group about mining rights.....mercs armed by the alliance, if you decide to renegade and kill the mercs I&apos;m pretty sure you can call out Hackett banking on you doing this as the preferred option, being a Spectre you get no pushback, now in ME 2 having no official alliance ties and officially dead, Hackett again takes advantage of the fact there&apos;s little to no pushback again <br><br>Sorry for the essay

  Admiral Hackett was part of the Rear Admiral Kahoku cover up. Never trusted him.

  I&apos;m still newish to ME but I&apos;m pretty sure the Ultimate Batarian Hater Shep would be Colonist/Ruthless AKA the Butcher of Torfan.

  Hackett is simply a very skilled strategist, asking Shep for this was a better alternative than say corsairs or their Marines (which he otherwise send there). But just because using gave him an excellent deniability and best chance to get Kenson back) doesn&apos;t mean he&apos;d sell Shepard out if things went south (which they clearly did). It&apos;s very obvious that Kenson&apos;s assignment is black ops - it&apos;s in line with her research - and Hackett&apos;s in dire need for more intel on the Reapers.<br>He also reveals to Shep that he didn&apos;t talk much with Kenson and he doesn&apos;t seem to know more than Kenson being imprisoned.<br>Hackett seem oblivious about the shady indoctrination stuff with Kenson, Rhoo and her (all too large) staff. Because when we put all the pieces together this indoctrination-thing and slamming an asteroid into the relay to destroy the Alpha relay were unforeseen consequences; he merely knew he sent one of the rare agents - and dear friend - to find more intel on the Reapers in Bahak and that she got captured.

  ~41 minute: I THINK MEL missunderstand what&apos;s going on in the debrief scene: Hackett&apos;s inquiring to try fill in HIS gaps with a giant explosion, batarians reporting heavy casualties from the same area where Hackett sent Shepard to free Kenson. He doesn&apos;t know more than that and that Kenson isn&apos;t onboard the Normandy! THAT&apos;S probably why you think &quot;Hackett flips fast&quot; as he get to know the circumstantial details on what happened on the base. Neither he nor Shep knew she was indoctrinated, only that their best black ops-agent with ties to the Fleet Admiral himself, was captured. Those potential repercussions alone could be devastating if they got out or reached the Batarian Hegemony.<br>Btw, Hackett can&apos;t be Shep&apos;s dad since he refers to Shep&apos;s parents being Alliance officets in the very beginning of ME1 (as in Hackett knowing who they are.) Unlikely that he would be talking about himself, I suppose.

  Doesn&apos;t really matter. There is no scenario where the Batarians come out the other end of this situation alive. They either get wiped out by the destruction of the relay or they become the first target of the Reapers.
